ABOUT ME

I'm a curious, outgoing person, who doesn't like conventions. I like to see the good in people, and not live by rules! I'm left-wing. I have a strong negative disposition to injustice and inequity. I'm a vegetarian . I don't usually smoke, but I might be persuaded for a (part of a) cigarette socially. I do like to drink a beer, a good wine (preferably red) or some whiskey.

I like new experiences and learning. So when I travel I like a good combination of culture, meeting new people, and going out.

I'm an assistant professor in Social Psychology. I'm very much interested in why people choose what they choose, and behave the way they do. I love to teach. I love working with students. I love talking and discussing about all sorts of topics.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have some experience with couch surfing. I (and other people that I live with) have hosted several people. I live in a living group (basically, we have seperate rooms, but share the joys and burdens of living together), and in summer our house is home to many guests, sometimes from couchsurfing, or other friends looking for a place to stay.

Interests

A lot: my curiosity can be somewhat unfocused

but a short selection:
reading, logic, science (all sciences interest me more or less), politics, and music(!! Couldn't live without music! I play piano, a bit of accordeon, and I just started singing lessons), sports (doing it myself, as watching it can feel fairly tedious to me), playing games (board games, computer games, other games, I love to compete in a friendly context!), theatre! I'm in a musical group at the moment.

I love to dance. Usually this happens at a party, but this can also be at someone home or at a dancing event.

Music, Movies, and Books

books: House of leaves, hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, Cryptonomicon, , everything of Paul Auster, Murakami, I just finished M-train and Just Kids by Patti Smith. Godel, Escher, Bach. Nietschze's Tears.

Movies: Broad taste. Generally science fiction, art house, as long as it's creative. but I can also like some pulp or a good comedy.

Recently seen or generally liked:
Mr. Nobody. I'm not there. The lobster. Kynodontas.

Music: Beatles, Eels, Muse, Johnny Flynn, oi va voi, Queen, Regina Spektor. Also, the doors, bob dylan, david bowie, queen.
Nowadays, the Dutch also have some great bands, check out: Happy camper, Blaudzun, Alamo Racetrack, Spinvis (very poetic, but in Dutch), and my favorite Dutch artist: Lucky Fonz III

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

riding a camel and sleeping in the Sahara! I would love to spend a longer period there.

Teach, Learn, Share

As a student in social psychology, I know how much influence the environment (other people included) can influence our behavior. I like to be informed on politics, and try to find new music every day!
