ABOUT ME

I was born and raised in DC area, and after living in New England (Providence and Boston) for 10-ish years, I'm back in DC. I've worked in the economic and social justice movement for my whole adult life (aside from a couple random gigs, like working as a cruise ship deck hand) and now work as a researcher at a progressive labor union.

PHILOSOPHY

keep on fighting and keep on loving

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

After couchsurfing with some amazing people on a roadtrip from Rhode Island to Mexico City a several years ago, I returned the favor by hosting many folks back in the day. I haven't been involved in the CS community for a while, but decided to jump back into it because it's a great way to travel, meet people, and learn about new places.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had nothing but amazing experiences through couchsurfing so far, both hosting and surfing, and have met many incredible people I never would have met otherwise.

Interests

You know, same old stuff as anyone. Music, travel, reading, learning, eating, hiking and nature, going out with friends (new and old), commiserating about the sad state of world affairs, etc.

I love learning about the places I visit (their history, music and arts scene, environment, politics), and what better way to do that than through the lovely people of couchsurfing!

Music, Movies, and Books

that which invokes a sense of urgency, purpose, awe, and/or deeper meaning. you know it when you hear it, read it, or see it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A particularly amazing experience was in Milpa Alta, a neighborhood in Mexico City, drinking pulque in the living room of an old man who painstakingly makes the pulque himself, and has every day for decades. It's distilled inside the carcass of a pig from the liquid that's inside of the maguey cactus. But unfortunately, it's a custom/skill that is disappearing as not many in the younger generations are learning the art of making pulque.

Teach, Learn, Share

Our house has lovely pets (1 dog and 2 cats) who are all sweeties. We also have more house plants than we can count, a pretty legit vinyl record collection, and some pretty awesome art all over the house. (My partner is an artist in several mediums, and our landlord is a friend who is also an artist and we have some of his cool paintings around as well.)

The house also has a bunch of musical instruments, but I don't play as much as I used to, so TBH, they're mostly collecting dust.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A chill, low maintenance guest who is cool to keep himself busy on his own checking out a new city, or hang and check out the sites with a host who wants to be a hands-on ambassador for their city. I usually travel with my partner, and she's great. She's even better company than I am, no doubt.
