About Me
**I'm sorry, I'm not accepting guests during the covid19 pandemic. Hopefully once this is over we can all return to better days and happy travels.**
Personal descriptors: short, determined, funny, loyal, occasionally tactless, really really earnest. Sense of humour rather dry, and further soured by a love of puns.
I live with my funny little cat Thomas in Sudbury, Ontario. I'm a nurse and a university student. Thomas doesn't do anything but mooch food and butt scratches, as far as I know.
I may or may not be able to host you - I love hosting, but it can be exhausting, and I'm becoming more of an introvert in my old age. Request away, but please know that I'm much happier with lots of notice. NB I'm a fan of the cultural exchange part of CS.
So stay for a couple of days, let's eat together and make friends. If you're passing through town on your way to someplace bigger and brighter, and just need a place to crash, ask someone else.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
It's all a learning experience, and provides opportunity for real growth - mentally, emotionally, culturally. My very first CS experience involved going on a last minute vacation to Mont St. Michel with two terrific boys that I'd never met before, and it only got better from there.
Interests
making music, spinning, knitting, sewing, ceramics, reading, weight lifting, contra-dancing, waltzing, chess, clever people, making pottery, travelling the world!
Music, Movies, and Books
Some (certainly not a comprehensive list) of my favorite books/authors: T.H. White's 'The Once and Future King'; Ursula K. LeGuin; any and all of Dennis Lee's work; T.S. Eliot; Margaret Drabble- 'The Red Queen'; Jane Urquhart- 'Away'. The Harry Potters Nos. 1 through 3. Umberto Eco. Barack Obama's 'Dreams from My Father'. William Gibson. China Mieville.
Music- mostly country, alt-country, appalachian, cajun/zydeco, bluegrass, roots blues. With a hefty dose of Cyndi Lauper. Also, swedish electro-pop.
Movies? I confess, I don't watch many. But I do have a secret thing for schmaltzy 'chick' flicks. Moonstruck (with Cher) is one of my alltime favorites.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Three amazing things: Have steered a helicopter, and camped out in a July snowstorm (an oddity for Canada).
Also, took Carsten Holler's Unilever from the third level of the Tate Modern. Would not recommend doing this with hangover.
Teach, Learn, Share
Hmm. I could teach/share a little bit about knitting, pottery, sewing, or basic wound care.
