About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I found my happy place, now I have to go earn the right to be there

ABOUT ME

I am a young man, a triplet, an Alaskan, an artist, a technology enthusiast, a romantic, and possibly a socialist.

I grew up in a remote town in Alaska, and I suppose it could have been worse. Valdez is a town of about 4200 people situated some six hours' drive from any larger city. From there you could fly two thousand miles to Seattle, or take a week to drive across endless miles of empty tundra to reach---America!

In my dreams the mainland US glittered in towers of steel, wreathed in neon, glowing with enough light to reach across all the vast empty darkness.

In reality harsh, snowy winters, endless eighteen-hour nights, and a lethally cold ocean were seriously not doing it for me.

Since reaching adulthood, I've had something of a nomadic lifestyle, living and working in different places in the US. Since then I've lost count of the number of zip codes I've had, and found as much of city life as I liked, but still somehow ended up being cold for some part of the winter. Even worse, I learned that this was considered pretty normal. I felt a truly fair universe would make an exception in my case :)

Be careful what you wish for. In early 2011 I flew to Costa Rica, and had many strange adventures wonderful to tell. I stayed there fifteen months in all, and I may have left my heart there. If you find it, hang on to it until I get a forwarding address.

PHILOSOPHY

I tend towards rational empiricism, but I enjoy what I've read of Zen Buddhism, and I enjoy discussing spirituality and religion in general. I was raised Catholic, and can generally see the point of having a Christian background.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have a home available for crashing, and I know people well enough to inflict polite strangers on in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Valdez, and Palmer, Alaska.

I like to travel around and share my knowledge and experience with people. It's a great big world out there :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed on couches before finding this site, but only once via CS.org. It was totally awesome though, I want to do it again! :)

Interests

I like playing games, outdoor activities of the non-winter variety, good meals, and talking to people.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like music that hasn't been fed through AutoTune, non-major-label music, Creative Commons, jazz, classical, a bunch of random indie music, a bit of punk, and generally music that has interesting lyrics or harmonic structure.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Only one? I've been to Paris, and Versailles, climbed glaciers and trekked rainforests, and buried my father. I've told stories, danced, laughed, cried, and forgotten about most of it. I think the most amazing thing that I will do or see is yet in my future.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've picked up a bit of knowledge on my way through life, and I enjoy passing it on and learning new stuff all the time.
