About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to travel the globe seeing as much as I possibly can. There is no place I don't want to go

ABOUT ME

I have been dreaming of travelling the globe since I was old enough to form my own independent thought...unfortunately I got stuck in the career mode for over a decade. BUT, the universes have all aligned and it has worked out perfectly. I have packed it all in, left some of the most amazing framily (my family of friends)behind and am now LTD (living the dream). 2 year working visa in the UK and an attitude to see as much of UK and Europe as I possibly can in that time. There will be no stone unturned in my travels!

Update May 2012:
Well, this is now my second year and third summer travelling. My UK Visa is up and I'm back on the travel path, with plans to enjoy Montenegro, Albania, Bulgaria (for the second time!) and then back to Turkey for a season of sunshine there...My travels have taken me far and wide (within Europe, haha!) and I have loved every moment. Not ready to leave the continent as there is still so many countries and places and sights I want to see, but I'm hoping that by the end of the year I'll be in Canada, doing the whole working visa over there for a couple of years!

Update July 2014:
Well, it happened! I traveled as I had "planned", roadtrippin' through Montenegro and Albania, before working in Turkey for a second summer, and then making my way to Canadia on a working Visa. Time has flown and I have been living and working here in BC since November 2012 ... and have completely fallen in love. My travels and adventures have been mostly within this beautiful province (with some side dashes to Oz, Vietnam and the States...) and I am trying my utmost to stay. If I could live between Canada, Turkey and Australia, my life would be complete!

PHILOSOPHY

Be open and happy to all new experiences, and try everything once! ... but maybe don't try anything I wouldn't do twice ;)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I finally have a couch!! Unfortunately my housemate and I have a small place which is generally always full - when you live in a locale as fabulous as Whistler, I'm sure you can understand EVERYBODY wants to stay. You can always try though!

When I get to a destination or location that I have a home, my couch will be available. Until then, I am hoping to call upon all of the wonderful people registerd with CS.

In my travels the past few years I have had some of the most amazing hosts. I haven't had one bad experience but have made many new friends that I plan to (and have!) caught up with again and again.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far I have not had any couchsurfing experience...I hope to rectify this in the very near future as I travel the globe from 2010 onwards.

Update May 2010 - first ever CSing experience in Antwerpen with some of the coolest, friendliest andmost generous people ever, that has made me even fonder of this entire project!

June 2010 - second and third time CSing in Zurich and again can not believe the incredible generosity and openness of the people I am meeting, it is amazing!

May 2012 - I can't even count how many brilliant hosts I have since stayed with, some of whom I now count as good friends. The best being those I have had the opportunity to meet back up with elsewhere in the world or even back in their hometown. I can't wait to be able to reciprocate and host my own.

Interests

I love socialising and meeting new people from all walks of life. I love my friends and family and don't know what I would do without them. I love animals, and before leaving Oz to trek the globe I had 2 beautiful dogs - an Alaskan Malamute and a Black Labrador (who I miss sooo much!). I enjoy sport - both playing and watching and do like to be active. I do not watch a lot of television and would much prefer to be outdoors.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love reading and will enjoy almost any genre. My favourite book (or series) is Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time. Even if you don't like fantasy novels it is a brilliant read as it is so well written.

Life without music would be dull and boring - going to gigs, festivals and seeing live music is a must in my life. I like most music (except country) and would be hard pressed to name just a single favourite...

My fave movie of all time is The Crow with Brandon Lee. When I first saw the movie there was an interview with him and he was so passionate about his work and life in general. And then to be killed on set, such a tragedy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My first bungee jump...off a bridge in Whistler BC, Canada...not so much the highest or longest fall, but hey! I have attempted! (and will most definitely do it again!)

I went skydiving in Busselton, Western Australia and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life - such a good buzz. I can't wait to go Bungee Jumping now but can't decide if I want to do it in NZ or from Victoria Falls in South Africa.

In August 2010 I spent a month travelling through Morocco with my sister and a very close friend. We had the most amazing opportunity to trek through the Sahara with a real Berber nomad and experience it like no tour could ever give us. A highlight was sitting under the stars gazing at shooting stars in the middle of the Saharan Dessert whilst 2 Nomads played the bongo drums, BRILLIANT!

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach & Share - half birthdays! I can't believe that so few (in fact no one so far) celebrates their half birthday, I am determined to change that!

The Sneaky Low Back, the new alternative to a Hi5...

I plan on spending a good 8-12 months travelling through South America in my travels, so am desperate to learn Spanish.

After a season in Turkey in 2011, I'm starting to pick up on a few Turkish phrases, although Beginner is still optimistic for my skill!
