COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Love it--it's been the best way for me to make great connections and build relationships through my travels. I wouldn't want to travel any other way.

Interessen

Traveling, hiking, nature and the great outdoors. Cooking (preferably with friends and a good bottle of wine,) baking, dark chocolate, and spicy food. I studied kung fu off an on for 10 years,and although I have yet to find a master in Cairo, it's still one of my biggest passions. Reading, writing, history, religion--I'm currently working on my MA in Religion. Yoga. I teach BodyPump and Spinning here in Cairo. Oh and...did someone say dance party?!

Musik, Filme und Bücher

Books: Most historical fiction. Outlander series, River God, The Stand, Into the Wild, The Yacoubian Building, The Things They Carried, The Conference of the Birds. Memoirs of a Geisha, all Harry Potter, The Road. Most classics. Thoreau. Joseph Campbell, Karen Armstrong. World religion and mythology. Sufism. For my Master's I'm lately immersed in women, gender, & religion. I'm a sucker for self-improvement and anything that might teach me about myself.

Not very musically adventurous unless someone introduces me to it. Most pop/chart-toppers--Rihanna, Lady Gaga. Blues, R&B. Adele, Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, Sade. Classical. Chill-out Buddha Bar-type. And since living in Cairo lots of nature sounds.

Big costume-y historical dramas. LOTR. James Bond. Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones. The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family. Conan and nearly any barbarian muscle-man (or woman) flick. The classics--Cary Grant,Kate Hepburn, Bette Davis, Garbo. Kung fu, Kill Bill. Penny Dreadful.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

Living for two years in a mud hut in the north of Burkina Faso (West Africa) with no electricity, no running water, by myself in a village where I couldn't even speak the language when I first arrived. When I left it was like leaving my closest family. One of the best and hardest things I've ever done.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

Taught English as a foreign language in China. Studied and taught kung fu. I love hosting dinners and parties, and enjoy cooking and baking for others. Believe it or not I love cleaning and organizing--establishing order out of chaos. And I can drive in Cairo--no rules, no problem.
