some trips: walked the appalachian trail (2174 miles), then wandered in india on a human kindness experiment (www.hke.blogspot.com). Sailed new zealand to japan, then overland through china to tibet over the himalayas to nepal and back to india. also overland from egypt to austria once. and overland/sea from japan to siberia, mongolia, china, laos, thailand once. in summer 2012 went overland/sea from Guinea to Lisbon. summer 2013 rode my motorcycle from Lisbon to Copenhagen, via Venice.

unregulated couchsurfing in himalayan villages (in tibet, nepal, and india); freedom camping and couchsurfing in new zealand; also in Sweden and Norway; proper CS stays/meetups in Israel, Istanbul, Beirut, Austria, and various cities in the Balkans. also in Japan, Siberia, Mongolia, China. also hosted a bunch when stuck in seattle.
