About Me

Bonn-jour! There are as many bad wordplays involving "Bonn" as there are nice places to see. I moved here almost five years ago and really enjoy studying and living in this cute, nature-surrounded city that used to be the former German capital (today no one can actually imagine that...^^).
It is relaxing to sit by the river Rhine, taking a beer or wine with friends and philosophize about the big things in life. Moreover, I like to ride around with my bike, do little hikes in the Siebengebirge close by or go to an Art Exhibition in one of the art museums. If one feels the urge to experience the "big-city-beat", Cologne is just an half-hour train ride away.

Bonn fits me well, because like the city at some places seems to be lost in its "glorious" past as the capital of Germany, I, too, am more like the "90's child" that cannot keep up with (or rather: I am not interested in ) all the new technological stuff. I always prefer a book or newspaper out of actual paper over reading ebooks and online articles or my handwritten calendar over some ominous outlook or google calendar. I'm still trying to figure out which option is actually more environment friendly ...
Anyways, I definitely prefer the real over the virtual reality and hope to see, hear and smell as much of the world as I can.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

For years I've mostly stayed in hostels or at a friend's place when I was travelling, but now I realized there is this amazing thing called "internet" that makes it pretty easy to get in touch with people whom I didn't know before and travel to places where a did not know anybody.
And because I've realized that what makes a unique experience is not doing as much as possible in the "been-there-done-that" manner, but rather getting a real feeling for a city or country by discovering its secret spots, authentic culture and listening to the stories and experiences of its inhabitants. Otherwise, what is the difference to sitting and home and reading the wikipedia article. At least this is my hope and my own aspiration.

Music, Movies, and Books

I really cannot name any specific style of music I am particularly attracted to. I discover interesting artists and songs every day which range from indie rock/pop (e.g. Arcade Fire) over electronic music (e.g. Moderat or James Blake) to some branches of jazz, world music and classical music.
I am happy to share some stuff with you and explore your favorite artists.

The same goes for books and movies, where I casually switch between bestseller or Hollywood blockbuster and small unknown writers and arthouse movies, and I love (political) satire.
One could call it "open-minded", but maybe it's just part of my deeper general decision-making problem. ;)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can teach you how economics is really relevant to all and really each and every single aspect of life. Almost anything can be broken down to economic concepts, but don't expect any real solutions to real problems. ;)
