About Me

Hiya everyone!
I'm Terri from Australia and I'm travelling around trying to meet amazing people and have amazing experiences. I've just finished volunteering at a NFP in Rural Nepal and I'm now hoping to van around the USA!!!
Some of this I hope will be camping out in your national parks, and some will be making connections with people in the cities. I hope if I can stay with you that I'll be able to cook you delicious food and just get to know you and your world.
I'm not a big party animal so you won't expect to see me coming home late nights, and I'm mostly reserved but I love to cook for people, and be creative!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I would love to make connections with people around the world. I think the happiness is doubled when shared and being able to share experiences (and food) with others is what makes the world a better place.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I love a mixture of most music, but some honorable mentions are The Cat Empire, Mick Jenkins, Regina Spektor, Linkin Park, Vulfpeck, Fleetwood Mac and more. I also love listening to classical piano (especially while working), blues and jazz.
Movies: As well, it hugely varies! Star Wars, Stargate (not a movie but important to add), American History X, Four Brothers, Mary Poppins, The Hunt for the Wilderpeople, What We Do In The Shadows, Into The Wild, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and so on!
Books: The Book Thief, The Shadow of the Wild, Gone Girl etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I recently just finished volunteering in Takure, Nepal where all of the buildings and homes were destroyed in the 2015 earthquakes. Unfortunately, getting aid to these rural villages was extremely slow and even 3 years on there are many people living in make-shift housing made from tin. I worked on sustainable building development projects that took natural building materials, such as earth bag, CEB (rammed earth bricks), bamboo and cob to rebuild homes, buildings and schools. As well, their rammed earth brick project employs the local community and sells bricks at a subsidised rate to stimulate the economy within the community and provide future employment for the community of Takure. It was one of the most amazing experiences because I've never worked on anything quite so fulfilling through my time volunteering elsewhere. The NFP is entirely volunteer, is immersed in the community in which it builds really strong connections and the projects that I worked on I got to witness transform into housing. It was also a great learning experience on working with earth bags specifically, but also bamboo. Both materials are readily available in Australia (particularly the soil) and when I get I'll be working to build an earth bag house for a intentional community.

Teach, Learn, Share

Things I'd love to learn while travelling are: language! I would particularly love to learn spanish as it's always been an ambition of mine. I would love to learn guitar, learn more about myself and my capabilities, I would love to learn more art techniques with drawing, painting and other crafts. Mostly I would love to learn about others lives, their stories and their experiences.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can happy share my experiences with others. I actually love cleaning so I'm more than happy to help around the house. I LOVE cooking for others and sharing food and I'd love to cook where I stay and share this with others. I'd also love to do art and play music together if I stay with so inclined folk.
