Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

I intend to learn... about everything that I possibly can. So, an educational sponge, I guess, is my mission.

ABOUT ME

I am a goofball. It's very rare that you'll see me not smiling or cracking a joke, or making awkward noises or faces. I've got the Midwestern, outgoing, welcoming personality.
I [think I] am well-rounded. I lead an active lifestyle: I have a dog that I jog with (sometimes), I bike or walk most places, I play in summer league softball & volleyball, etc. I'm getting my Masters Degree in Vocal Performance with an emphasis in Vocal Pedagogy (teaching). I love the sciences, especially human biology, physiology & nutrition. I participate in & support the arts.

PHILOSOPHY

My lifelong goal is to never stop learning. I think once you stop learning you've stopped living.

And, life is to be enjoyed--it's too short to be angry or glum for any amount of time. Be happy, appreciate and savor every moment.

No matter how bad it seems, it could always be worse, and you need to learn what you can from the "bad" times and experiences.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I biked part of the way home (& hurt my knee pretty badly in West Virginia) to Wisconsin in the summer of 2011, from Baltimore, to raise money to help pay for Grad School, opera auditions, and other career-based expenses. I wanted to view our beautiful country, meet new people, and take time to delve into who I really am; I guess you could say it was a somewhat soul-searching bike ride. I camped & surfed along the way.

I intend on cycling & utilizing CS every year as I make my way from wherever I live to my hometown. I do this trip in order to raise funds for various causes that will benefit the community I grew up in in some way: 2012's ride is raising funds for two people who have an exorbitant amount of medical bills due to not having health insurance; 2013-14's rides will be used to build an endowment in order to create a scholarship for my HS; and, 2015+ will be used to help rebuild and revive an old, large building so that the community members have a place that hosts healthier past times, i.e. a book & crafts store, a studio for workout classes, a cafe that uses local produce & meats, etc.

I can host [depending on my uber-busy schedule], and even if I can't host I'm always up for a cup-o-java or a meal with passers-by in the Baltimore area!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I stayed with a lovely family in VA in the summer of 2011 on my cycling trip, a great guy in MN for an opera audition, and am able to finally host! I hope to do this for many more years.

Intereses

I loooooooove cooking (and EATING), cycling (even though I don't know much about bikes), and just being active mentally and physically! I canned for the first time this summer. I am kind of all over the place when it comes to interests--I like to dabble. I knit, perform music, play sports, read (when I have time), garden... essentially an 80 year old lady trapped in this body.

Música, películas y libros

SPACEBALLS. I love that movie. There are too many movies that I like; to really do justice, it would take too much space to type them all.
No single genre holds my interest more than the other, but I am partial to heavy rock & opera (weird combo, I know).
I think my favorite books are dictionaries--in different languages especially.

Algo increíble que he hecho

I made it to grad school--I grew up poor in a rural town in Wisconsin that seems to promote alcoholism and dissatisfaction with ones life, & made it all the way to grad school.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

Singing properly is extremely difficult, it's like any other athletic event. It takes mental & amazing physical control. Even as a Masters student I don't have my classical technique completely solid!
