ABOUT ME

I study Philosophy — (mostly) dead white guys, (sometimes) dead brown guys (or, if you prefer, ancient Greek, ancient Roman, and ancient Indian philosophy), and aesthetics. I also have broader interests in the history of ideas.

I've lived and studied in India, the US and (briefly) the UK. After ten (long) years in the US, I moved back to India two years ago and I currently teach philosophy here at a university near Delhi.

I enjoy a lot of things when I travel, both cultural and natural. I also enjoy good food and good alcohol, but believe (or at least tell myself that I do) in the Aristotelian mean! When it comes to cooking, my enthusiasm far exceeds my skill, but I'm always glad to learn and even gladder to try.

I'm reasonably neat and would be equally happy hanging out with you and being left to my own devices.

I've grown up with dogs, have cats, and have worked at an animal shelter with dogs and cats, so be very happy surfing somewhere where there are pets.

I hope to forge new friendships and gain from new experiences as I travel.

Interesses

Everything interests me! Well, almost. I'm not wildly interested in the social life of cockroaches -- but I'm open to having my mind changed about that as well. Part of the point of travel, for me, is discovering new interests and not just going for things that I already know I'm interested in.

Músicas, Filmes e Livros

I find these lists near impossible -- and, at this point, I find it hard to even think in terms of favourites. Most of my reading is, because of my profession, in philosophy. I used to read novels and hope to do so again! I like poetry a great deal. I like a lot of music; while I've come some way from being someone who only listened to a very limited set of classical composers, I don't much like contemporary pop. I'm learning more and more about movies every day -- I still remain woefully ignorant, but I find that here, as with music, I haven't like a large number of films that were made after I was born.

Uma Coisa Incrível que Eu Fiz

I don't know if it's amazing or just downright crazy, but I once (under the influence of someone a good deal crazier) took an auto rickshaw (a tuk-tuk) for a journey of 250 kms. This was unplanned and rather interesting.
