About Me

CURRENT MISSION

reentering polite society

ABOUT ME

I ran away from the "real world" about 2 0r 3 years ago in seach of getting lost. I pulled that off in spades.
I've spent that time drifting in the winds and tides, from lost islands to tall ships (traditional square sailed ships of the pre 19th centuray variety).
I sailed from Puerto Rico up the east coast, to noviscotia. Then turned around and sailed south to the gulf side of Florida where the need for a place to call home finaly overtook me.
I'm currently trying to establish a foothold in the "real word" that I left so long ago.

PHILOSOPHY

1)Laugh and the world laughs with you. Cry and you cry alone.
2)"How sweet it is, to do absolutely nothing all day. and after having done so, to rest."
3)There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats
4)No one reaches the grave safely in a well preserved corpse...Live it up!
5)"Buy the ticket, take the ride..."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love the communal spirit that travelers share. and the bond that it creates between people that otherwise have little, or nothing else in common.
This network not only embodies that Spirit, but promotes it. After all, Lodging is the biggest expense of the open road.
I'm a damn good cook, and fix just about anything accept your laptop.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've been couch surfing for years without the help of a social network. Rent in my home town wasn't cheap and our seasonal economy wasn't great, So I tended to flee in search of greener pastures just about every year or two. Getting locked into a lease always seemed risky.
I'm easy going and low maintenance, and have never found myself lacking a place to stay.

Interests

Camping/backpacking/wandering/exploring, horse-back riding, sailing, fishing, reading/writing, playing/writing music, cooking/eating, cartoons (especially old ones), hammocks, mechanical bulls, mud, slip'n'slides, rope swings, tree houses, running around barefoot, running a muck, hot weather, warm water, cold beer...
...and goofin off in general.

Music, Movies, and Books

Old-timey music is definately one of my vices, anything older than me is alright in my book (I play banjo for Christ sake). Not to say I don't apreciate the newer stuff too.
As far as books go, I like Tristan Jones, Mark Twain, David Sedaris, Chuck Pahlenuik, Hunter Tompson, and Just about anything that has to do with the open road, and/or the unbeaten path.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've sailed thousands of miles (I don't have room to explain to you what I've seen), been marooned on an island in the pacific north west, kidnapped in Mexico, lived in a hammock over the water in a breathtaking beach side jungle, and one time somebody hit me in the head with a Volkswagon and I died!... I got better though.
