About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To never have anything to regret

ABOUT ME

I'm an animation graduate from Texas. My southern drawl comes and goes depending on where I am and who I'm with, but one word always stays constant. Pah. For you people not from Texas, that translation would be Pie. Yes. People generally tend to find that amusing, particularly, and oddly, people from the United Kingdom. Don't ask me.

I love being in a messy studio, have ruined more clothes than I care to count with inks, paints and plasters and am a very visual person. I'm messy, erratic, sarcastic, argumentative and sometimes stubborn with a pretty dry sense of humor.

I love the outdoors, hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, canoeing if forced, and backpacking. I've grown up in the south so the cold completely destroys me, but I can outlast many people in the soupy 105 degree humidity of a Texan August. I like music, theater, art, history, architecture and culture in general. I like couches but I've slept on a lot of floors too.

PHILOSOPHY

Again, like my mission, I do not want to have anything to regret. This came from a lesson I learned when I was pretty wee. I got the chance to ride in a cockpit of a helicopter when I was six and turned it down because I was too afraid. My sister, who was four at the time, totally went for it (I know, upstaged by someone who wasn't even in kindergarten yet. So ashamed). Anyway, I learned a valuable lesson in taking chances, even if you're a little afraid.

This however has led to me doing things my rational self would normally have talked me out of. Jumping off high things, swimming in things, trespassing in things. But do I have any regrets!? No! Only that damn helicopter!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm based in Houston these days. Center of city, not a suburb out in the middle of nowhere forty minutes away claiming to be Houston. I'm within walking distance of amazing restaurants and museums. There's always something to do here and I've made it my personal mission to scope out all the cute local restaurants. I only eat at chains if necessary. So if you want to meet up for a meal, I can introduce you to a unique place if that's what you want or just direct you to the nearest local pub!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've never done it but I cannot wait! I've only barely traveled internationally but cannot wait to do it. I've planned an Italian trip for next September and am hoping to see it through! That will be my first foray into travel and I cannot wait!

Interests

Outdoors and cultural stuff have been covered. I like photography, although, truth be told I am not very good at it. Reading is big for me, I'm never without a book and I doubt I ever will be. They've given me the gift of an awkward, extensive in weird unused words vocabulary that doesn't generally transfer to type, since I can read what I'm saying.

Music, Movies, and Books

Gone with the Wind is my favorite movie (yes, all four hours of it) and its my favorite book. Movies-wise I also like City of Lost Children, Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, Pan's Labyrinth, The Fountain, Atonement, Everything is Illuminated, and all the eighties Molly Ringwald movies. I like indie rock and underground music and a hodgepodge of other genres. Specifically, Architecture in Helsinki, British Sea Power, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!, The Zutons and various others. I love to read historical fiction, biographies, and historical accounts of big events (right now I'm reading a book on the effects of the building of the second St. Peter's).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have climbed the highest mountain in Texas (Guadalupe Peak). I mean, its no Everest, but it was pretty amazing. I've also done my fair share of hiking, camping, and I've seen most of the U.S.
Also, I've rolled (yes, rolled...not walked, not run, but ROLLED) down the Texas Sandslide. For those of you who don't know...the Texas Sandslide is this hella tall and very steep, almost straight up chunk of sand on the side of a mountain. You scurry up and you can run down, but if you're awesome you roll, avoid the rocks, and emerge at the bottom with sand stuck in places you didn't even know about. Its fun. Go do it.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you want to know about art...I can help you out. I'm an official art geek. I love art history and am planning on getting my masters in art history in the near future. I try to keep on the up and up of interesting exhibitions in the more major museums. However, if you want info on anything modern, stay away from me. I can also teach you to draw some pretty sweet cartoons. If, you know, you like cartoons.
