About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To tear down the illusionary boundries of nations and show the brotherhood of man. And other hippy stuff.

ABOUT ME

I've just moved to London for my new job as a teacher. I've come to believe couchsurfing is a brilliant and much-needed tool for people from all over the world to connect, share each others' worlds a little and show how much we have in common in all the things that matter.

I can't host at the moment as I'm living in a shared house but I had a great time both hosting and surfing in the past and will be returning to couchsurfing next year.

PHILOSOPHY

Be the change you want to see in the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

To tear down the illusionary boundries of nations and show the brotherhood of man. And other hippy stuff.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Experienced it for the first time years ago when my girlfriend took me to Berlin for my birthday. Had a great time and was hosted by a lovely guy. Since then I've surfed a few times and hosted quite a lot last summer, and every experience has been positive so far.

Interests

Books, ideas, music, cooking, drinking, laughing, football, bad jokes, global economic politics, revolutions, teaching, film-making, pretentiousness.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Holi - Spring festival in Santiniketan, West Bengal. The sun was shining, the trees were full of yellow flowers and everyone wore white clothes. We sat on the roofs of the university buildings and watched a huge procession of thousands of people scattering flowers to celebrate the arrival of spring. Then music and the beginning of an old day colour-fight. With everyone hurling handfuls of pure pigment in every colour of the rainbow at each other, pouring it over each other's hair, smearing it with their fingers into each other's clothes. Best fun and most visually beautiful day of my life.

Trekking the Fish River Canyon in Namibia on a school trip. 120km over three days, including climbing into the canyon on the first day. It was blazingly hot, until dark when it was 'how the hell is this even possible' freezing, and because the river was all but dried up, you were constantly walking in soft sand. With a massive backpack with a tent and three days of food. Most of which I ate in the first 24 hours, meaning for most of the time I was being sustained by ryvita and tiny packets of jam like you get in hotel breakfasts. Sitting in the swimming pool sized hot tub heated by the hot springs having just eaten a steak the size of a sofa cushion felt pretty amazing.

My girlfriend buying my tickets to see Sigur Ros, my favourite band, play in Berlin, and arranging hostels and my first ever couch surfer host (a great guy). The weather was beautiful, the music incredible, the girl stunning and basically everything was pretty freaking great. Plus I got to go to the zoo. I like zoos.

Summer holiday, camping with the girl mentioned above. Flew out to Milan, train and bus to Lake Garda. Gorgeous. Then, a thunderstorm with the severity of the wrath of the almighty. So we escaped on a train to the first place sunny. Arrived in nthe middle of the night after ten hours of travelling. Slept under the stars outside the train station. Arrived at the campsite shortly before dawn. Pitched camp in the dark. Woke up, groggy. Peered out from the tent. Realised everyone was naked. Eventually deduced we had unknowingly become nudists. Decided to say 'fuck it', and got naked. Managed not to sunburn anything awkward.
