About Me

Hi there! My name is Thøger - I'm 23 and Danish. I study South Asian Studies at Aarhus University, and work part time as a student guide. I love traveling to all different parts of the globe (though, within the past couple of years having been very cautious of the polluting aspect of flying). I'm an avid reader; a great fan of Michel Houellebecq and Orhan Pamuk, but I definitely also enjoy non-fiction. I love going on long walks; hour-long walks while being podcast-listening, people-watching and nature-enjoying.

Altogether, I'm just a young guy who's interested in the world, who likes reading and writing, cooking (especially Indian food), chatting, discussing and listening to music (who doesn't). Additionally, I love a good glass of red wine or a beer, I play the piano and I'm pretty good at baking sour dough bread (like, not bakery kinda good, but definitely average...:-) )!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love the concept of sharing, and that makes Couchsurfing an incredible platform to me. From my perspective, traveling isn't just about going to fancy destinations around the world, but much more about the people you meet along the way. From all my trips, the very best memories I have are from conversations and experiences with new people I had just met. Getting to experience the local vibe first hand is a privilege, and I can't count on two hands the times where I have been taken by surprise by a new friend teaching me something about their cultures, religions and ways of living that I had never even thought about.
Altogether, getting to experience a different culture first hand is amazing, and in my opinion there is no better way of discovering your travel destination than getting near the pulse itself by staying with locals.

I want to share my place with everyone who wants to see Denmark, Danishness and the Danish culture from a local's perspective, so feel free to send me a message if that's you!
On the other hand, I'm looking very much forward to staying with fellow Couchsurfer's, to meet all of you guys, and to explore the world from a less touristy perspective.

Music, Movies, and Books

Currently reading 'Snow' by Orhan Pamuk. Next up is 'Serotonin' by Michel Houellebecq or 'The Red-haired Woman' by Orhan Pamuk. I havn't decided yet. I like non-fiction too and have tried to read 'the Capital in the 21st Century' by Thomas Piketty for the past 2-3 years, but without succeeding (yet). Of other non-fictional writers, I like a lot of different writers, but have recently been reading Francis Fukuyama, Ivan Krastev and David Runciman.

I like a lot of music; everything from jazz to techno. Right now I'm listening a lot to Altin Gün, Yumi Zouma and Tame Impala.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Quit my job, sold my car and bought a one way ticket to Bangkok. It sounds like a cliché, but it changed me a lot, gave me some incredible experiences and insights, and might have been the best decision I've ever made.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share some great stories about life - Preferably over a nice bottle of red wine. I can teach you some Danish or Hindi if you're interested, and also help you practicing english if you're not a native speaker. Also, I'm a pretty decent cook, and would love to show off my skills! ;-)
