About Me

### You are here because my Hangout "Sail to Isle of Man"? ###

Some words to that what you have to expect:
It is a distance from around 70 miles. That means that we will spend about 15h on the water. Much time for nice conversations. I like to reach during daylight, that means we will start around midnight.
I am NOT sailing back to Belfast! The weatherforcast will decide what is my next stop.
My boat is small. You feel any wave. So there is the risk that you become seesik.
During the night it is cold on the water. You need warm clothes and the top layer should be waterproof.

SAIL WITH ME

Hey backpacker, travler, people with time...
This is a invitation to sail with me on my Sailboat forwards south.
Just for a day or two or even (if we have fun together) for a longer time. My destination is Spain or Marok. Some place were is no winter. Maybe Lampedusa. As far as I know there are a lot of people which will be happy about the help from a guy with a well working boat because our governments just talk and let them die instead of helping them.
I am looking for a (temporary) companion, so that I am not always alone during this long trip. And for sure I look also for someone who is sailing the boat wile I am sleeping.
Don't worry if you have no sailing experiences. You don't need. My boat is equipt with an autopilot. It sails by himself. But from time to time someone has to take a look if there is an other boat or a iceberg we can ram. It is not my plan to play Titanic :-)
In cases you see a boat, a iceberg or a sea monster, we are going to collision with, and you don't know what to do, just wake me up.
It is my idea to follow the Norwegian coastline down to Bergen. There turning west forwards Shetland islands and then following the British coastline forwards Spain. So I can pick you up at each spot on the way. But think, so a sailboat is a really slow vehicle. If you are in Bergen and you like to get a lift to Shetland islands and you have just 2 weeks of holiday left, that will never work. As long as I am alone i can make a maximum of 50 Miles a day. (About 90km)

Some words to the costs: Sailing is a really cheep hobby. Actually it is for free! For sure, we have to eat something but my boat has a small kitchen we can cook much more inside then just a coffee.
From time to time it is nice to stop in a harbour. To fill up water, load the batteries and to go shopping (dumpster diving). The harbour fee here in Norway is mostly between 100 and 300 NOK/night. It would be nice if we can chair. Normally I juse my anchor for sleeping and row to the land whit a small inflatable boat. But once in a weak (or in stormy wether) I Prefer a harbour.

Some words to the boat: Don't expect a luxury Yacht. I sail a smal, old, fucked up boat. It has a kitchen, running water, musik a toilet and 1 place to sleep, which is not in use for storing my belongings. So we have to empty some spot for you or, and that is my main idea, we sleep in shifts. If I am sailing, my beet is free an you can use it.
And then there is the possibility to have a shower with warm water on deck. (Outside) That is really nice in warm wether conditions and really uncomfortable if it is cold and windy. (One of the reasons I wanne go to Spain)
Because the boat is so small I can invite just a single person for a longer time. For a day tripp, even a 24 hour day trip I can invite 2 or even 3 people.

Some words about me: I am a 38 years old male. Born in a district of our wonderful blue planet called Germany. I leave this district at the beginning of 2007. Since this time I make work and travel. Now I spend the summer in northern Norway. I had a job there to make some money for the next years of traveling. So I live totally low budget. My live is to short to wast it with working. Just to make money to buy things I not really need.
My hobbies are traveling, sailing, hiking, cycling, partying. Have fun and enjoy. Talking and doing bullshit :-)
I am a bit afraid of the Internet because I belive that it steals big parts of my privecy. That is the reason that I open up a new couchsurfing account for each time I like to use the system. (Do you ever read the Terms of Use from CS?) I have no facebook, no blog and in each country I visit a new phone number and e mail. Buy the way: I am always interested to swap smartphones. From time to time a new IMEI number can not be wrong.
Otherwise I would say that I am easy going and funny. But this depends in the eyes of the viewer.
Ah, yes... I think a little bit left alternative. But you have properly still realised.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I became a member in 2007. In this times CS was a great community for traveller. Then it became more and more popular. A platform for tourists. Around 2011 they start to sell my data's like all the other social networks and i never used my profile again. I was yusing it just for hosting and the price I had to pay to meet some people was to high for me. Giving away my datas is a high price.
I meet nice people everywhere. Totally without the help of the www.
But... i meet people just if i am on land. So i am at CS to find some companion in times I like to make distances. In times i am just on the water.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There are so many nice things I have seen or I have done. Having a shower under a Waterfall, seeing a wall just a few meters away from my boat, feeling the first sunshine on the skin after a cold night on the water...
But the most amazing experiences I can remember is always when people help each other.
