About Me

I am a bit of a nerd- love books, art and history. My dream day includes a leisurely stroll through an incredible art museum, a meal I have never tried before, time on the water and laughing with great company while live music plays. Ahhhh......

I am currently teaching myself to knit, crochet and sew- good winter crafts and look forward to getting outside to garden and start some home DIY come spring. I love learning new things. I have a weirdly wonderful memory for song lyrics from the 70's and am a terrific partner in any trivia game- but I forget where I leave my keys.

I am a committed mom at the moment- more apt to be baking cookies than backpacking- but my spirit of adventure still lives. My greatest accomplishments are the hearts of my 3 kids. Watching them grow up into kind, open-hearted, adventurous people gives me joy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

What a great way to open our home to interesting people from all over the world! I hope to surf a bit when gramma is able to watch our youngest, but until then, want to be part of the adventure from our home!

We have hosted people from Rwanda, Germany, Alaska, Arizona and Ghana unofficially, so why stop there?

Interests

Travel! (Of course), DIY around our home, cooking, gardening, suburban chicken farming, nutrition, hiking, skiing and learning to follow God more closely.

My family also enjoys camping, hiking, snow shoeing, skiing and boarding and just enjoying the wonderful Colorado outdoors. We are blessed to live here and want to make the most of it.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Although my hubby loves him some country, we are pretty eclectic around here. Reggae, Old-school jazz, Classic Rock, Christian Contemporary, Indie... We are trying to please disparate generations around here, so anything but metal, rap and screamo works!

Books: I read constantly, so always have a new favorite. The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, East of Eden, Lord of the Rings,The Time Traveler's Wife, The Bible... all still resonate with me. I love historical fiction and mystery.

Movies:

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived in Salzburg, Austria as a college student and attended Salzburg College for 6 months. Have Eur-rail pass, will travel! I loved backpacking around Europe every weekend and had an amazing time getting to know my host family and becoming immersed in the village culture of Kasern. I learned German and gained immeasurable confidence and memories while seeing the bigger world and making friends wherever we went. High light: spending time in East Berlin while it was a Soviet-controlled city before the wall finally fell and our visit of an Austrian concentration camp. Sobering both.

Teach, Learn, Share

II love to feed people and can whip up a wonderful soup out of most anything! I want to learn new recipes and methods of making yummy food for others.
I know a lot about nutrition and am learning about the use of essential oils and alternative health practices. I know a little about raising chickens, dogs and kids and creating a welcoming home for friends.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My goofy sense of humor and laugh, American home style cooking, and a generous heart for getting to know others.
