Sobre mí

I am currently travelling and will be moving to Seattle in the fall!!

I have done quite a bit of couchsurfing, both hosting in Winnipeg and Halifax (Canada), as well as being hosted in various countries. I have loved pretty much all of the experiences I've had on account of this, but I have had better and lesser connections with hosts and guests. For me, these platforms are about opening the world in a wonderful way to allow people to be kind and to receive kindness. I love being able to be hosted by people who live in the places that I am visiting because I enjoy meeting people. And I love hosting people for the same reason.

I am rather cheerful most of the time and often silly. I spend a lot of time in libraries with lexicons but also love hikes, bikes, and being near live trees. Growing things, walks, and well turned phrases make me happy, as do soups, bread, and good literature. Coming from Winnipeg, a flat place with two rivers, I find cobblestones, old European architecture, the sea, and inclines exciting.

This summer I've been living in Rome to do an internship with the Paideia Institute and have been working on writing an introductory Latin textbook for middle school students.

I highly value passion and compassion and find that my friends are a delightful mix of highly passionate and compassionate people.

I often like people who are similar to me in that they: think, dance, play music, tackle power structures, identify as queer or allies, identify as feminists, live in the country, want to live in the country, take care of pets (be they real or imaginary), have gardens (be they real or imaginary), read books, lust after libraries, swim, jump over things (including language barriers), are playful, are serious, make music, do math, are sensitive, prioritize communication, enjoy adventures, make jokes, make art, all of the above, and, none of the above.

I used to run a swimming school at my parents house and have also worked as a mascot (a giant tiger).

PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy? Yes please! for cogito ergo sum! While thinking you cannot doubt your existence.

But as for the question, if you mean what do I live by I'd say my personal philosophy is still in the works. If that is too much of a cop out for you then I'd say I am thinking about aristotilian ethics a lot and how to life the best life, make the most beautiful decisions that will most contribute to my happiness and justice. For this happiness I need free thought and contemplation so to truly follow this everything done is for the sake of contemplating the highest good.

I haven't proven it through theory or practice yet but if you read that through and want to argue about it (thoughtfully) then we will most likely get along very well. If not, I am also pretty easy going!

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am no longer very new to couchsurfing! I've participated by being hosted in Cork, galway, Dublin and Edinburgh, Spain, Vancouver, Portland, San Fransico, Santa Fe, Reyjekevik, Copenhagen, Aalborg, Leipzig, Halle and Berlin!
I've also hosted people from around the world in Winnipeg and now Halifax.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've couchsurfed in many countries and hosted people from all over. The best part about this is visiting friends who have visited me or hosting people who have surfed with me.

Algo increíble que he hecho

Skating on the Red River from Osbourne to the Forks at midnight on a crisp monday after math club. They had just erected this giant orange orb warming shack, suspended from the Forks bridge. Fresh orange paint told us we were the first to crawl into the middle of the Orb and sit inside while it gently swayed. Sometimes Winnipeg is so great it is a wonder anyone ever leaves.

I was hitchhiking through Iceland at 11:30 pm trying to get to where I was living at the time and the guy driving the car asks me if I have seen the waterfall. "Which one," I ask. (If you have ever been to Iceland you will know that there are waterfalls pretty well every five minutes). "The hidden one up by the barn in the rock." "No, I don't think I've seen that one." "We have to take you there!" He says to his Icelandic friend. I try to protest as they are only able to drop me a little closer to my destination and the sun is sort of setting in the way it does for hours on end in May. But they insist and we get out of the car, hike down a little path, scramble over some large rocks and he helps me up to see the most amazing waterfall I've ever seen. The air is thick with magic and the endless sunset has just struck a warm peachy glow. There was a twinge in the air that makes you say, "This is why I came. This is why I am here."
