About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To become a Donaudampfschifffahrtsgesellschaftskapitän... obviously.
ABOUT ME
Let me introduce myself:
I'm Daria...
Apart from that?
I was dipping in and out of an architectural building and objects conservation - been scrubbing here and poulticing there...
Now I study again after some years of break, spending hours on counting varnish cracks in old paintings and cleaning centuries-old dirt.
But before I got here I was doing many different things, I liked most of them and enjoyed the people I've met.
In fact, one of those 'story-bringers' I've met on my way inspired me to pack my backpack, leave my comfort zone and move somewhere else.
So I moved in 2011 and I travel - now way less than before as I study and work 5 or more days a week. Mostly on my own but there always will be someone to share my journey with.
Sometimes it's just Gogol - my bike - but I don't mind, he's a great companion anyway.
PHILOSOPHY
"You are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world."
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My first CS experience was simply great. My host showed me what does it mean to be THE HOST and I salud him for that!
All the next ones were as great - and different same time - as the first one.
Interests
ingloriously old stuff with some glorious ideas behind it.
I really enjoy good conversation, but also pleasant silence; laughter - both making someone laugh and laughing myself; good coffee or tea are also very much appreciated...

Music, Movies, and Books
Music
I love music that moves and makes one feel more, but where is also a certain coherence between the medium and the message. So there are probably not enough words to tell about all the music I like - brass music, choral music, worship music, music sung in not so obvious languages, klezmer, some bizarre ethno-electro fusions, orthodox music, good old classic composers and some modern noises...
Books
after studying literature I have no idea which are my favourite... I definitely like 'the authors' like Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy or Kafka.
But also those contemporary ones who ask and explore some big and important life questions like Tim Keller or C.S. Lewis.
Movies
I enjoy European cinema. I'm a fan of Kusturica's movies and Czech movies for all of their disarming absurd. I like a Scandinavian cinema with its subtle reserve, Italian movies for the sound of the language. And many more for many other small-big reasons.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Camino de Santiago
So you walk and walk, and walk...
Teach, Learn, Share
I could tell you how chelate complexes or micelles work, why varnish turns yellow or how to make white paint from lead... - fun stuff, hey :)
You can teach me how to juggle or how to stand on my hands, or how to develop a sense of rhythm which I couldn't find until now.
