About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Balancing Wanderlust and Heimweh

ABOUT ME

I kind of like long-haul flights, drearyness and hours in concrete airports. In my usual (non-travelling) life I spend a lot of time reading, taking photographs and raving about gender, politics and pop culture.
I adore going out dancing and I have a weakness for a certain brand of slapstick comedy.

PHILOSOPHY

For a political philosophy student this is quite a loaded question, but in a 'word': I believe that human nature is malleable, I love a debate and try not to take it all Too Seriously.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: I heart Huckabees. Breakfast at Tiffany's. Me and You and Everyone We Know. The Purple Rose of Cairo. Dig!. The Five Obstructions. Shortbus. Suddenly Last Summer. The Rope.

I own obsessive dvd box sets of: Lars Von Trier, Audrey Hepburn, Romero (zombie trilogy) and Marilyn Monroe.

Music: everything from psychedelic Pakistani folk to Beyonce to Joanna Newsom to the Rolling Stones.

Books/ Authors: Don DeLillo, Martha Gellhorn, Shirley Jackson, Philip Roth, Truman Capote, David Sedaris, Michael Ondaatje, 'The God of Small Things' by Arundhati Roy, and also several comics/ graphic novels: anything by Eisner, Y the Last Man, the Walking Dead, 'Palestine' by Joe Sacco, 'Pyongyang' by Guy Delisle.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Seen: Vancouver. It is a beautiful, well-organised, friendly and accessible city. The beaches are amazing, the forests are old and the people are talkative.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can bake a perfect New York cheesecake and I also love to engage in political debates, although the older I get, the more aware I am of my own naivety.

Learn: anything, especially- economics, indian cooking and French language.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Cambodia, Canada, Ethiopia, France, India, Italy, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, Samoa, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

Colombia, Germany, Israel, New Zealand, Timor-Leste (East Timor), Viet Nam
