About Me

CURRENT MISSION

(Figuring out what my current mission is)

ABOUT ME

I am not satisfied with my own opinions, boundaries, or limits. I love people, and I try to come from a place of sincere compassion. I can be pretty quiet, but I am a friendly person. I do not think I know myself, but only because I do not find myself predictable enough to be known.

PHILOSOPHY

To get to the other side

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Currently I just use the site to surf, though my experiences with the project so far really make me want to get into the hosting side of the it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed only a few times, but each experience has been different, and each has been surprisingly enriching. It's definitely taught me the value of keeping an open mind, which has allowed me to make some really great friends.

Interests

I'm passionate about stories, in whatever form they take. I like to read and to meet people who are different than me. I play the ukulele alright and the banjo very, very poorly.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love to read: David Foster Wallace, DeLillo, Pynchon, and Toni Morrison are some of my favorite fiction writers, and I also enjoy a lot of continental philosophy (recently Hegel's Phenomenology) as well as journalists and essayists (Didion's collected works are great). Recently I've been listening to a lot of Sun Ra and some tropicalia, and have always enjoyed early 2000s electronic music, especially Four Tet and Prefuse 73.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I climbed an active volcano in Guatemala. It was very hot and there was open magma. Almost exactly a year later, it erupted and hurt several people

Teach, Learn, Share

I know how to play the ukulele, how to move cattle on horseback, how to lock in an excellent credit score, and how to drive a tractor. I know how to determine the sex of an alligator, how to record music into a mixer, how to make some absurdly good Doro Watt, and how to skin an animal.
