ABOUT ME

I love life. Travelling is awesome. I love meeting new people and sharing ideas. I'm laid back and chilled out... most of the time, and I'm a complete goof sometimes too. I finished university and retired from competetive cross country ski and biathlon racing last may. Since then my life has gone through a bit of a change. All of sudden I have time to do a lot of the things I couldn't really do while I was training and in school. I guess I didn't really take up any new hobbies, I just did more of the ones I already had. I hike and bike and camp and ski a lot. I'm totally in love with mountains, and the west coast of Canada is a pretty ok place to be in my opinion. During the summer months, I work for the government of Alberta as a forest firefighter.
I've been fortunate thus far to have travelled a bit, and I started fairly early in life. When I was a child my family participated in a year long exchange to Australia. During my early teens, we lived in the UK with the same program. As an athlete, I travelled extensivley throughout Canada, the USA, and Europe. Last autumn/winter I made my first trip to asia, which was amazing.
My plan at the moment is to see a bit of the world, and meet some interesting people before I head back to school to become a doctor. I want to have a positive, tangible influence in people's lives.

Hiking, climbing, running, skiing, ultimate, cycling, orienteering... If it's an outdoor sport, chances are that I love it. I love reading, watching movies, hanging out, and discovering new musical sounds.

Yann Martel, Ian McEwan, Salman Rushdie, James Clavel, Jung Chang, JRR Tolkien, Jared Diamond, John Le Carre..... to name a few of my favorite authors... I LOVE movies. Some recent favorites include Little Miss Sunshine, The Departed, Rushmore, Amelie, The Life Aquatic... anything by Richard Linklater.
As for music, my tastes are broad, eclectic and depend entirely on my mood. Most recently I've been listening to the Killers, Muse, the Postal Service, American Analog Set, Eels... but I'm quite happy listening to Jay-Z, YoYo Ma, Metalica, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Jack Johnson, Eminem, Miles Davis, Rage Against the Machine, Portishead... I could go on. Death metal isn't well represented in my music library.
