About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To reject the assumed stationary existence of hospital-school-office-hospital-cemetary while discovering our our country on the wings of our love of music.

ABOUT ME

The three of us met while studying in Italy, and since we've remained friends, doing our best to maintain a lust for life in our own separate pathways. Nick has ventured into the successful world of architecture in San Francisco and has carved out a nice world for himself, but is not ready to commit to the repetitive nature of an office life. Rob is Rob is Rob, and finds inspiration solely in his music. Eric has spent his recent years traveling around the world with CouchSurfing and such, trying to figure out what to do with his damned fingers. The Bus was originally bought in Tacoma, Washington by our friend (and fellow Italian alumnus, Arthuro Rodriguez), and shall be gutted and refitted with a smattering of musical instruments (piano included) and life bloods to help us along in our journey. There is also Greg, the 6'6" jericurl-mulletted drummer/astroengineer, Mark Wahlberg, the bassist/guitarist/apathetic model, and who knows who else.

All of us aspire (hopefully including the bus, herself) to varying degrees of recklessness and sunshine, and want to see the rainbow road of these United States of America.

The creator/maintainer of this profile is me, Eric, who I think is the only one of the main group with a CS profile. For references or whatever, check it:

PHILOSOPHY

If it's without passion...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We will need the help of many to get around, and might need counsel on where to park our bus for the night without issue, and might occasionally opt for a shower if you are willing to offer one. Um.

We are also down to offer rides to whomever as we go, and will build in extra cots or such for those that need to crash.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Eric first couchsurfed in Athens, Greece and has since skated by on the theory that if the host knows and loves Tom Waits, all will be in order. He has been hosted under the looming lava of Mt. Etna in Sicily, within a tent at a jazz festival in New Zealand, and in the very first human settlement in Fiji. 40 bags of kava in one night...that says it all.

Interests

Ukulele, diesel gasoline, whiskey, banjo, minor chords, hiking, getting lost, getting found.

Music, Movies, and Books

Dylan, Zeppelin, Tom Waits, Dr. Dog, Elvis Costello, NOT the Eagles, AC/DC, plus a zillion of our own respective loves (for example, Eric is into Jon Brion, Architecture in Helsinki, Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire, Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, Lawrence Arabia and the rest of Lil' Chief Records, Gene Austin and that sort of 20s crooner romantic stuff, Nino Rota, old, nostalgic Italian/French/Thai music, etc);

Kerouac, Twain, Vonnegut, Tom Robbins. Our profile name lazily references that Kerouac novel, but the truth is -- sigh -- none of us are in fact literate;

Fellini, Road trip films and Roy Orbison's Black & White Night.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Buying this school bus is a significant leap for us collectively, but it was our year in Italy that really changed everything.

Teach, Learn, Share

Music, art, sport. We might be able to put on a concert for you, teach you songs or how to play stuff, plus some recipes (Italian and Thai food, mostly, for me, as well as a bit of those languages, I guess), how to play baseball...
