About Me

Hi ladies and gentlemen, my name is Christophe, I've been working as a police officer in Paris for 10 years (child protection unit : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbXbO2iYxEA and now Homeless Outreach Police Unit : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OA9HRERacxA&t=6s You can see me in the police car and giving some coffee to an homeless guy!).

I'm half Basque (French basque country in the Southwest of France) by my mother and half Vietnamese by my father ! I've been living in Paris but I'm from Aix-en-Provence at the origin, a beautiful city close to Marseille in the Southeast of France !

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet new people and to speak different languages, but also because I strongly believe that we're all interconnected and that if we want to make a better world, we have to concretely help each other. Hosting someone is a good way to make a better world, isn't it ?;-)

Interests

Before the police, I did a master degree in Chinese in 2005 and lived two years in Taiwan. So I'm very interested in improving my Chinese and learning Asian languages, especially Taiwanese and Japanese! Of course, I don't limit myself to Asian languages and would like to learn all the languages I mentioned in the "overview" about me in my profile ! Except foreign languages, I'm totally addicted to crossfit, yoga, stretching and French boxing (a kind of kickboxing)! Let's train together ! Besides, I try to travel abroad two or three times every year... So maybe we can exchange about our different experiences?:-)

Music, Movies, and Books

I don't listen so much music, but I must admit I've been a big fan of Michael Jackson for years ! I like jazz, pop music, acid jazz, lounge and chill out music too! A book ? 1984, by G. Orwell! A movie ? Whiplash which I watched in 2014! No words to express what I felt when I watched this movie !

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Visiting the Taroko gorge in the east coast of Taiwan in 2012. Natural hot springs, wild beaches, monkeys, indigenous tribes, no tourists, no cars, just the forest, my friend and me !

Teach, Learn, Share

I tried to start again my studies in Chinese by doing a PhD about Taiwan indigenous literature in 2010 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QLgvr6Ddfc), but I gave it up because a big lack of time.... But now, I have good news : I've decided to start a new research this year, by analizing French national police through anthropology! So if we can talk about the police in your country, let's go! Even if I consider myself as a Christian, I'm also very influenced by Tibetan Buddhism in my life, it helps me a lot in my daily life and I really try to develop humanistic values like altruism and compassion. Maybe we can share that and meditate together, or debate about the next spiritual cycle which will follow the "crazy economical cycle" we're living now ?;-)

What I Can Share with Hosts

Just one night because my flat is very small (30 square meters). I live very close to the Père Lachaise cemetery, in the 20th district of Paris. The subway is very close (10 mn by foot), and you can get to the middle of Paris very quickly and easily. I can't lend the keys of my flat. I'm free all the week, but if you come from Monday to Friday, no problem to host you, you'll just have to come after 8 pm and leave before 10 am the second day! Sorry to say that but I won't be your guide in Paris. I just can tell you how to get to the "hotspots" in the city and share a vegan dinner which i cook myself at my place!

I have to precise I'M NOT GAY and I prefer to host women, because it's safer this way (don't worry I'm not a rapist ;)). Of course, I accept men too.
