CURRENT MISSION
Reintegrate into "real" life
ABOUT ME
"Not all who wander are lost." - J.R.R. Tolkien
Hi! So here I am in a nutshell: I grew up in the country, moved to the city for school, studied abroad, backpacked for a year, worked for 5 years in New York, and now I'm taking a super long bike tour to Mexico before throwing everything into starting a brewery. I love traveling though over the years I've become more conscious of the impact my actions have on my personal health and on the planet, so I'm now mostly vegetarian and a strong environmental activist, exploring the continent by bicycle. I also enjoy DJing & homebrewing, finding myself to be a wandering socialite some days and a reclusive mad scientist working on my next solar power project on others. The old Jeff would have a hard time recognizing new Jeff.
PHILOSOPHY
"The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion." - Albert Camus
"Not a shred of evidence exists in favor of the idea that life is serious." - Brendan Gill
Be sure to do no harm, be excited to do good.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have lent my couch to many CSers passing through New York, and I've gotten several of my friends to sign up for CS. Now that I'm in the midst of a trip I try to couchsurf when convenient. I also try to mention the site to anyone I think would benefit from the experience.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've made many good friends by hosting CSers and I still keep in touch with just about everyone. My best experience has to be camping with CS Camp at Burning Man in 2009. There's nothing like bringing Couchsurfing to the middle of the desert for a week.
Interests
I like cooking, listening to and mixing my own music, yoga, cycling, backpacking and everything else travel related - probably just like everyone else on this site! My professional interests are in business, economics and healthcare issues. For fun though it's DJing, Burning Man, and BEER! I'm a member of the American Homebrewers Association and I've just been christened a judge with the Beer Judge Certification Program. Soon I'll hopefully be entering the brewing business full time!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I left home and took my first flight ever when I was 21 years old - and I went to Hong Kong by myself. Within 3 years I made it around the world. I also only learned to ride a bike when I was 20, and I just finished cycling from Canada to Mexico!
Teach, Learn, Share
Bicycle touring and environmental issues are my thing these days. I'm happy to tell stories about my current bike trip and explain the mission of the Ride Planet Earth Collective of world-traveling cyclists. I can also talk about beer as long as anyone wants to listen! Beer history, categorization, brewing, judging, and drinking.
