About Me

Hello. My name is Chris.

I am currently a full time student studying Media Analysis and Production. My long term goal is to work within the broadcast media industry or to live and work in Japan.

I used to be in good paying full-time job, but the current economic downturn in Aberdeen forced me to assess my future career options but I have never looked back since.

I'm a friendly, open and honest person. I do my best to stay positive and find ways to push myself. I also like to be independant and sometimes spontaneous.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to meet and talk with people from other parts of the world to make new friends. Being able to talk to other people who have different cultural backgrounds is something that is really exciting to me. I feel that you can learn something new and it can open your mind to more interesting things.

Because I have a strong love for Japan I really want to know more Japanese people who share some interests that I have and become friends.

From a career side I would like to make contacts in other countries for future job opportunities as working abroad is something that I am seriously considering.

Because I have a strong interest in Japan, my aim would be to find a career there starting off as an ALT for english in a Japanese school then move on to another area of work once I begin to learn more Japanese.

Interests

My main interest is Japanese culture.

I enjoy learning more about their history, cultural differences within food, music, television, news stories, food, fashion and social events like festivals etc. I learn what I can by watching videos online or reading articles.

I travelled to Japan back in May 2016 for two weeks. I went to various places such as Nikko, Saitama, Tokyo, Kamakura, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara and Kobe. I saw so many amazing things, ate so much delicious food, and met some nice people along the way.

Another interest I have is photography and video making. I enjoy travelling to new places within driving distance to take photographs of and sometimes make videos for sites like YouTube.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Visiting Japan: It was on my list of things to do ever since I was a boy so to finally make that dream a reality back in 2016 was amazing for me. I planned my trip as much as I could and I had no bad experiences about it at all.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a native english speaker so I can assist and do my best to help you if you are still learning the language.

I would be interested in learning how to make traditional meals from the country that I am living in and learning all of the cultural codes of that country as well to make sure that I am being a respectful citizen.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I've held my UK driver's licence for nearly two years. If outside of UK I could apply for a International Driving Permit if one is required and would then be able to drive in that country depending on each countries conditions.

If you are still learning some aspects of English I am happy to assist with any lessons or exercises that your have been given to do in your spare time but I do not have teaching experience. I am used to speaking to some foreigners however so I do my best to have a clear and slow speaking accent so it is clear to understand.

I am happy to assist with any cleaning or tidying up if I am living at your apartment at a cheaper rate compared to a hotel or for free to help pay my way and show respect.

If you are interested in Japan or want to visit Scotland I can show you some websites and can make some recommendations based on my own knowledge and experience.

I am also computer and office literate so I can do my best to aid in those areas if you need some assistance with something.

I am single and have no children so I have no commitments within that area so I can travel freely by myself.
