About Me
My name is Ben, I am 29 years old and unlike most people my age who are focusing on settling down, building a career, buying a house and having a family... Well... I'm doing quite the opposite... I'm quitting my job, packing my bag and on the 1st July 2017 I'm setting off on the second adventure of a lifetime.
My first adventure, which started back in 2012, took me right the way across Canada, down the West coast of the United States and down into Mexico where I eventually found work teaching English. Despite this trip being the very first time I left the UK, it was, without doubt, the best 18 months of my life (so far).
In the end though, the money ran dry and like it or not, I returned back home to the UK where for the last 3 years I've been working as an emergency planner whose job it is to plan what hospitals should do in the event of an emergency like fires, outbreaks, Ebola, terrorism, explosions, plane crashes etc.
Outside of work I really enjoy running and keeping fit and try to be active as much as possible. I have a very dry and typically British sense of humour and love nothing more than getting out into the World and having an adventure. Oh, and for what it's worth - I'm gay as well :D
So what's the plan for my second 'big' trip? Well after returning back to Mexico I would like to continue with my journey south, heading overland down through Central and South America before hopping the Pacific to New Zealand and Australia. If money allows, I'd love to be able to backpack around South-East Asia and India before eventually returning back to Europe where I am would very much like to cycle my way town to town, country to country.
Either way, this is going to be the adventure of a lifetime and if the chance arises, I'd love for you to be part of it :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm on CouchSurfing because I love the unique and unforgettable experiences that come so readily when you host or surf with complete strangers.
As a host, I relish the opportunity of being able to show people around my hometown and provide them a unique - and hopefully unforgettable - experience that they would have been unable to have if they had stayed at a local hostel or hotel.
As a Surfer, I love nothing more than approaching a host's front door with absolutely no idea of what experience may await us both... for as the saying goes... "when nothing is clear... everything is possible!"

Music, Movies, and Books
Books: The Alchemist (Paulo Coelho). That said, its my dark little secret that I've only ever read three books so I'm not sure how revealing this is!?
Music: I find it very difficult to try and describe my music taste without showing people my Spotify playlists. Perhaps if we meet up I can just show you?
Movies: Anchorman, 12 Years a Slave, 28 Days/Weeks Later, Avatar, Valkyrie, Law Abiding Citizen, Amelie, Interstellar
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I hitchhiked 5,100km across Canada (Ottawa, ON to Victoria, BC) and loved every single minute of it.
