About Me

GREETINGS! My name is Christian, but you are free to call me Chris if you'd like!

My passion for traveling the world grew from my time in the military. I am a US Navy veteran having served over 7 years. I was an avionics tech and so I worked on aircraft electrical systems. Working in naval aviation I got to travel to some amazing places. Throughout my time in the service, I was deployed 3 times, once to Bahrain, then Italy and finally Japan as well as traveling to other such places like Ireland, England, El Salvador, and Greece while serving. Eventually I decided that working in the military and working in aviation was not the path that I wanted to pursue. I had a passion for working on computers and wanted to get into the information security field.

After leaving the military, a friend of my turned me onto the train surfing community. Although this is something that I could not risk my career over, I enjoyed watching different travelers on YouTube make their journeys. This reignited the flame inside me to get out o the office and travel. Soon later, I stumbled upon the digital nomad community. After looking around some, I made a decision that I wanted to travel the world and work as a digital nomad. I gave myself 1 year to do the research, carefully select my loadout and make my first trip. I committed and saw this through in December 2021. I did my first solo Europe trip traveling as far east as Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania and as far west as Spain and France. Needless to say, I had a blast and was hooked.

I returned home after a little over 2 months to go over the lessons I learned. I am fully committed to a life on the road whenever I am away from my home base. I love engaging with people from all different cultures and sharing my life experiences and learning about theirs. I enjoy engaging with others and during my travels have had some life changing encounters with people I am life long friends with and some people who I may never see again for the rest of my life. I have learned to embrace living in the moment (sometimes to a fault) and I enjoy life greatest surprises that await me!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To be honest, too many people (both hosts and guests) have told me to give couchsurfing a try. I have lots of experience couchsurfing, but its usually with friends and family of mine. I have heard nothing but good things (with some mixed experiences of course). Sometimes traveling can be boring and lonely and I am always looking for more opportunities to meet new people.

One of the things I am most excited about couchsurfing is CULTURAL EXCHANGE. I want to see how people around the world live and what their lives are like.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love all kinds of music but my favorites have to be electronic dance, metal/rock and orchestral.

I don't read a whole lot of books these days but I sure do enjoy buying them and letting them collect dust on my shelf. I am interested in anything that is science, sci-fi, biology, math, philosophy, etc. I love to learn.

When it comes to movies, I have always been a huge sci-fi nerd. I love Star Wars more than anything really, but I also love Lord of the Rings, Back to the Future, Harry Potter, etc. I do not like Star Trek or Dr Who.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I would have to say one of my best memories has to have been while I was underwater. I love scuba diving but there are so many awesome memories that I cannot pick a single one. Getting my license was probably the best decision I have ever made.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love talking about my job and my career. People always have tech and security questions for me and it is a huge passion of mine to share that knowledge with others. I also love playing music for other people but I am largely shy and wont do it all the time.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My experiences traveling, my knowledge, my insights into building a better world.
