About Me

January 2026
We are only helping travelers in need, and generally not accepting planned travel - but feel free to ask. If you are traveling and need to be rescued or an emergency place to stay, you can call me at 928-864-6642. If your car broke down, or your hotel burned down, I might be able to help you! We do have plenty of yard space to park a van or smaller RV, with power hook up. We have been on CS for almost 20 years! While our lives are pretty busy we are not accepting planned travel right now, we are almost always gone during the day, and the dogs are protective of the house. We have to plan in advance to be able to clean out the guest room. I hope to be able to host more frequently in the future.

June 2022

We are halting our acceptance of guests for a bit.

July 2021
We are accepting requests again! Please no last minute requests, unless it's an emergency. Like your car broke, or your hotel caught fire.
Covid 19 vaccination is Mandatory.

March 2020
If you are stranded due to cancellations or other travel issues, we may be able to help. We are are not accepting "planned" travel, only emergency lodging for stranded travelers.

Sept 2019:
Maybe we can host in the future. It would be nice to travel more and stay with some fellow hosts.

We generally need a week's notice to host. Summer is busy around here.

Please read this before asking to couchsurf with us:
********Please have a complete profile including all your travel companions *****Unless its a real emergency/catastrophe (ie our car broke down, our hotel burned down, my companion got injured), last minute requests will be declined. We need time to coordinate and prepare for guests and it takes effort and time to respond to all requests. We like to host people that are coming to see the area, or attending functions here in Flagstaff. Overnight travellers (just passing through) are welcome with enough notice.

****We only accept guests with COMPLETE profiles, including everyone in the party. Please spend some time creating your profile.****

We enjoy where we live, and have not been travelling as much lately. We invite travellers to see the Grand Canyon, Sedona, national monuments, skiing, mountain biking, hiking, motorcycling etc. We love it here and hope you will too.

While we are close to the canyon, its still 75 min drive to the east gate of the park. You need a car out here.

ABOUT ME

About US: We are a married couple living in the country outside of Flagstaff. Depending on the season, we ski, hike, mountain bike, ride motorcycles. Rena has taught art in public schools for over 20 years and currently works at a local arts academy. Robert is a project manager for an electrical contractor in town. We have three energetic, well behaved dogs. We have no children, no cats, but we do have wifi and a big screen for movies/hulu.
We enjoy cooking and cocktails and the quiet country life outside the city. Robert works lots and only gets weekends to play. Rena has started the Flagstaff Potters Guild. Weekday mornings are crazy with both of us getting to work. Weekends can be crazy too, or lazy sleeping in days and casual home-cooked brunch.

PHILOSOPHY

We try to be good parents to our dogs. We work a lot, and have many hobbies that keep us busy. We mostly dislike the current political climate in the US, we have covid vaccinations, and are polite and curious travelers and hosts. Non smokers, no drugs, but we do enjoy wine when appropriate.

We go with the flow, and do our best to be good people. Hard to complain about the mess in your neighbors yard when your own doorway needs sweeping.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We are offering our extra space for travelers. We have travelled and stayed with some great people, and want to keep the circle rolling.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Robert:I have spent years on the road, long before the internet was used for this kind of stuff. I have crashed on a few couches and let others stay at my house. This community was here before this site, now it's just easier!! Rena spent years mountain bike racing and crashing on couches while on the road. Couch surfing is actually how we met! I offered her the spare room at my house while she was on a road trip. Had to swoop on that girl!! That was 25 years ago!

We are pioneers on this site, and have accumulated a lot of knowledge and experiences along the way. We truly enjoy hosting guests, and sharing our special town with travellers.

Interests

Mountain biking, motorcycling, clay (Rena is a teacher/professional potter), tele skiing, climbing.
We have learned that one does what the area has to offer. Rena spends lots of time in her clay studio and Robert tinkers in his garage. www.renahamilton.com
We enjoy our libations but were not hard core partiers. We enjoy hosting social gatherings, seems like our house becomes the meeting place.

Music, Movies, and Books

Robert can strum 3 or 4 chords on a guitar, Rena listens to it all. We have little time to read, so we stare at the internet or binge a show. We actually talk to each other and have plenty to talk about. We have a stash of books in the guest room, and offer free wi-fi at the house, or just use our computer when you visit.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Robert has spent years being a climbing bum in the desert southwest, Rena saw lots throughout the U.S. while a mountain bike racer. Rena has hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Pichu. Robert has climbed a route on El Capitan and we've both surfed in Hawaii.
Lately doing track days on a Daytona 675 has been Robert's thing. We take our dirt bikes out to the endless dirt roads and trails in Arizona.

Teach, Learn, Share

Rena teaches art at a local charter arts school, what more do you want? Life is about learning new stuff. We share our good fortune with other traveler's.

What I Can Share with Hosts

We can cook or just hang out and provide good conversation.

Countries I’ve Visited

Aruba, Austria, Bahamas, Curaçao, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Macedonia, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico
