About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To show my brother around the UK, who is visiting me from Hawaii!

ABOUT ME

We are two native Texans. I live in London, and am in the final year of completing my Ph.D. in art history, and my brother John lives in Hawaii where he is teaching several science classes with Teach for America. I have been living in England off and on since 2007, and this is the first time John has been able to visit me. I am hoping to make this a memorable trip and share with him the culture I have so come to love here. John and I both love meeting new people, and we would prefer to use Couch Surfing and get to know people living in the cities we visit.

When I am not couch surfing, I am writing for my Ph.D., and spending time in London. I am actively involved in InterNations, an expat community with chapters worldwide, and am a Consul for the London Gallery Visits Group. I am currently starting an Amazon

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am currently a surfer, but look forward to hosting once I am more settled! John is currently hosting in Hawaii!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

During the summer of 2008, I visited several graduate art history programs across the US, and had the chance to stay on the couches of several current students at the universities I was interested in. It was a great way to learn about campus life from a current student's perspective! More recently, I spent a wonderful month driving along the east coast and through the deep south on my way back from Virginia to Texas after completing my master's. I met many great people who welcomed me to their cities and gave me a local's perspective. I don't enjoy traveling alone, and it has been wonderful to meet so many great people as I carry out the nomadic existence of a Ph.D. student conducting research all over the place. :)

Interests

My hobbies include, but are not limited to: anything art related, history, listening to all types of music, travel, learning about different cultures, eating good Mexican food, knitting, reading, yoga, gardening, swing dancing, watching funny movies, and generally just spending time with those who I am close to!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Going to Morocco with two girlfriends while studying abroad in Italy was quite the adventure. I don't think we knew what we were getting ourselves into, but we had a blast. I can't wait to go back someday! We also had a blast taking overnight trains around Europe, and have many funny stories as a consequence.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am happy to take any visitors around museums and galleries--or accompany my host to a museum in their city and share what I know about art!
