Chi sono

Interestingly enough when I first signed up for Couchsurfing in 2011 I was actually homeless living in my car and trying to find a job in San Francisco. I never did use the service then though.

I still live in the Bay Area, now work in Tech (well, maybe looking for work again shortly as I might have just tanked another startup), am a devoted father and avid reader who loves VR and Robotics. I won’t say I’m a homeowner just yet, as our home is really my partner’s house, but I’m definitely not homeless and I do pay my fair share of the bills.

In the time between living in my car and now . Wow, so much has happened.

I’ve started 3 companies and one was funded by an NSF Grant. I’m still working on that one, but it is undergoing a major crisis right now that it won’t likely survive. I founded a nonprofit called The Learning Shelter which has been quiet for about 2 years since maker Faire 2015 when we won a blue ribbon. We also won a blue Ribbon for my current startup in 2016 and a best cleantech startup award from the IEEE in 2017. Given the room to grow again I’m working to bring The Learning Shelter back to life as a VR program for homeless people. This may mean using VR for therapy or workforce development or just to plain give people a way to get out of the shelter for 30 minutes of VR vacation. I’m not sure how it will come out but I’m excited to order pizza and talk about what could be and kind of talk it out. I think this would be a good way to train prisoners preparing for release too.

Perché sono iscritto su Couchsurfing

I started out trying to find a place to sleep when I didn’t have a place to sleep. That didn’t work out.

Then 6 years later I was getting ready to go to Chicago for an Expo at the McCormick Center and wanted to try CS over AirBnB. That didn’t work out.

Now I’m realizing this app could be better than Facebook. This might work out.

Interessi

Dad stuff.

Combining the best of the past with the best of the future. What do you think malls will be like in 20 years? If you ever get to Oakland and can stop by, visit me at The Port Workspaces and we can show you around our 60,000 square foot Co working space with 5,000 square feet dedicated to our new MakerSpace. Which happens to be in an old mall that had completely shut down. I had really hoped to prototype a mini MakerSpace in an active shopping mall during the Christmas season. Not happening this year though. Maybe next, but we will soon have a mock-up version at least.

Musica, film e libri

I'm currently living by the book Principles by Ray Dalio.

I live in the Bay Area so of course I have to watch Silicon Valley and Game of Thrones (I'm pretty sure they will kick me out if I don't).

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

Lived through having a baby in the NICU for 14 weeks 9 of which we lived in the hospital with him. The last 5 we drove to the hospital every day and at least one of us held him for a couple of hours. He was born 1lb 3oz and is now about 12 lbs.

Insegna, impara, condividi

I can teach you:

3D Printing
Laser Cutting
CNC
CAD/CAM
Vector Design for Manufacturing
Much more

I’d love to learn any kind of ethnic cooking. I’m a fan of learning tidbits of languages. I can say at least one sentence in about a dozen languages. I was dubbed an extreme learner a while back. So I guess I’m really up to learning just about anything.

Cosa posso offrire ai padroni di casa

Lots and lots of stories from around the world.

Crowdfunding (I've helped other companies raise over $2M) even if you don’t really want to run the campaign we can totally drink beer and make one up for the fun of it. It’s almost a curse I can turn almost anything you say into a product or service.
