About Me
CURRENT MISSION
We like you! We like us! We want to go out and like more!
ABOUT ME
Joel and I (me! Alli!) met at college, good ole' Groovy UV, University of Vermont. We were both active in Theatre (yes, we were once theatre people) and found each other in our Junior year. Since college, we moved to Whitefish, Montana (with a brief hiatus in Santa Fe, New Mexico) where we lived on a small local farm named Purple Frog. It was an amazing home, and it fostered a deep respect for locally sourced and kindly grown foods. We pursued theatre for a bit, producing our own eco-centered theatre for about a year, but found that pursuing something for the sake of familiarity is sometimes the exactly wrong thing to do.
So, we abandoned our theatre-arts career and put more efforts into other passions. I work at a tea house and have found a passion for tea and the culture surrounding it. The philosophies, history, art and emotions surrounding a love and respect for tea have changed both Joel and my perspective of our world in ways that we are extremely grateful.
Joel is a gifted writer who takes all aspects of his life and puts it into his work.
Other than those basics, we are two twenty-somethings who, when in our hometown, stay at home pretty often and enjoy making our space our home. That being said, we travel a lot and love to see the world and all of the differences that unite us all!
PHILOSOPHY
"My father once told me that respect for the truth comes close to being the basis for all morality. 'Something cannot emerge from nothing,' he said. This is profound thinking if you understand how unstable 'the truth' can be."
-Frank Herbert
"Woe to him who has not within himself the source of happiness!"
-Nikos Kazantzakis
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We just joined CS and are looking to participate, for now, mostly through surfing. We rent a room in a friend's house, so our home isn't actually "our" home.
We are people who like to actually experience the places we go to instead of just passin' through. And places are partly defined by the people in them. We love the idea of couch surfing!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Two men traveled through our town this summer, couch surfing at an acquaintance's home. One of them ended up working with me at the tea house and I just adored him! He told me all about how he was couch surfing and it just sounded really awesome. To say it eloquently.
