About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To create our new home and to share it with like minded people of the world.

ABOUT US

We are a young family consisting of Mum, Dad, Sebastian (born in July 2009) and Samuel (born September 2012). We have a strong history of travelling and exploring and generally trying to spend as little time as possible working and as much time as possible in the great outdoors!
We are based in Bulgaria though we sometimes go wandering seeking cash or sunshine or preferably both!

Right now we are in Bulgaria renovating our dream home which we bought in 2018. Its in a small village(Bogdan) nestled in the northern slopes of the sredna gora. The hiking trails to the nearby mountain hut and to Bogdan peak start from our back garden. We will be staying here until at least the end of the summer.

This summer we are accepting a variety of couchsurfers, friends, family and volunteers at our new home in the mountains of Bulgaria. We are hoping that there will be a steady stream of people throughout the year to create a welcoming community feeling.
All this means that we might not be able to offer you a room, or even a couch but if you are happy to camp out then we will almost definitely have space for you! Families are especially welcome, we have 2 small streams alongside the house, ideal for kids to play in, and a huge forest to explore literally behind our home.

When we are not travelling you can usually find us at home in Bulgaria, working hard on this dream project. We are happy to host anyone coming through this way. Especially if you don't mind picking up a paint brush or doing some weeding! But you are equally welcome to just come hang out in our hammock or on our platform for a few days!
A little more about us:
Steve enjoys hiking and is doing a very good job of learning Bulgarian! He also juggles, plays chess and enjoys wood working projects.
Sharon is a travelling tattoo artist. She loves art and music and moving in many forms, especially yoga and rock climbing. She adores good food and reading and is currently learning Bulgarian and trying to learn how to play the piano.
Sebastian turned 9 years old in July 2018. He loves learning and playing and is a big fan of lego, Harry potter, chess and playing the piano. He likes meeting new people and telling them all about his interests,
Sam turned 6 in September 2018. He is full of energy and jumps/climbs on everything. He is bubbly and sociable and also loves playing lego, chess and the piano or generally doing whatever his big brother is doing!
We are always happy to help out a fellow traveller in any way we can. We are happy to accommodate and feed you if you are genuinely interested in a cultural exchange. In general we do not reply to blanket e-mails and prefer to host people we feel we will get a long well with and create a positive experience for us all.
Of course, visiting families are always good... but people without kids are just as welcome as long you can understand and respect that our kids will be kids... i.e. make a lot of noise, (EARLY in the morning) sometimes be annoying, break things, ask stupid questions etc. :)
We try not to take things too seriously and enjoy life. If you come to visit us, please bring a smile and cake!
(Note: The cake is optional, the smile is not!!!!) (Unless your a poker face pod or a goth, or you have recently had facial surgery - then we will let you off.)

PHILOSOPHY

Work to live, not live to work.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have been and always will be happy to host whenever we have a 'couch' to offer. We enjoy spreading the word about this wonderful project and the many fine people involved in it. Though we are a bit old school and slightly sceptical about couch surfing's recent 'developments'.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We couch surfed and hosted quite a bit in our early travelling days, though before there was a website for it! We joined this site in 2008 and spent most of winter 2008/09 hosting in the city of Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria. It was a fantastic introduction to the couch surfing project. We couch-surfed our way across Europe in 2010 and then hosted at our home in Bulgaria in 2010/11 where we met some amazing and wonderful people! We have continued to host both at home and in Turkey where we lived one winter. Now we have settled in our new home in the south of Bulgaria, we are happy to be welcoming couch surfers again. We love the project and you are almost guaranteed a couch with us! (Unless you are kopite scum.) ;)
