One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We cut some balsa trees in the Amazons, used their skin to tie up the logs to make some rafts and floated down the Amazon river for 5 days... well eaten by the millions of sandflies that craved human flesh and blood.

Traveled 2 years on an invalid passport (by accident of course, I am too law abiding to do something it intentionally without being well compensated by unscrupulous governments)

A lovely trip down the Congo river from Kisangani to Bumba on a beat up barge with Imam Moussa and his newly converted disciple Djibril, sleeping by the river bank, bathing in the river, only to be awarded with some monkey meat prepared by the captain's wife.

Camped in an abandoned cave devoid of cowshit on the hills of Khndzoresk, Armenia, with a bat as my cavemate, under the full moon accompanied by the chorus of howling wolves.(or were they jackals)

Scaring off robbers in downtown Johannesburg.

Fighting with muggers in Kiev. One took my camera and gave me a piece of his face in exchange.

Pushing off (politely, gracefully yet persistently) a polite, graceful yet persistent... and horny Egyptian dude who tried to have sex with me in a Dubai dorm.

Survived a daring fall from the 2nd floor of a hostel in Recife landing with the back of a chair in my groin.

Convincing government officials and soldiers in the DRC and CAR that I didn't have money to give them...in a language few could master, French.

Went to the edge of the desert village of Atar in the evening during a sandstorm to hunt for camel milk for supper.

Ate worms by mistake my first night in Kinshasa. The lady told me they were black mushrooms omitting the fact that they were cooked with black worms...Twas a dark night.

Negotiated for 6 hours through the immigration control on Ambon as officials discovered that I was entering a war zone without required permits. (another careless mistake on my part)

Hashish night in Lahore. After eyeing me for over an hour, a local policeman joined me. I think he's a Sufi.

Taken into the hospitality of tomb thieves near Afamia, one of whom wanted to marry my travel companion. We were given ancient potteries as parting gifts.

The next night, taken into the hospitality of a policeman who catches tomb thieves. He and his wife procreated fervently 1m beside us at 3AM and then 7AM. We gave them the potteries as a parting gift.

Invited to scream on stage in a demonstration against Syria in Beirut a week after the death of Rafik Hariri.

Touched by a gorilla.

Bucket showering naked on a beach in Lobito, beside a fancy restaurant, only to be viewed by local well-to-dos while having their after dinner beach strolls under the full moon.

Convincing half the world that I don't know Kung Fu thus I would not teach them how to fly.

After hitching in horizontal rain for 5 hours without success in eastern Iceland, I felt into the ditch on a spiffy turn after being ignored by yet another car.

Got hit by a car while riding a bicycle in Beijing. Lived.

Got hit by a snow truck while (Jay)walking in Toronto. Lived

400 mosquito bites & 36 toilet runs in one day in Bolivia. Lived.

Got hit by lightening on my tongue. Lived! (This one you don't have to believe)
