Overview
About Me
Nomad Nights is a free, community-led initiative that aims to bring the ethos and spirit of Couchsurfing into real-world connections—creating a smaller, intentional community within this global platform.
In the past, we’ve experienced instances where platform features—such as references or reports—were misused. As a result, we place a strong emphasis on privacy and protecting our volunteer organisers, who work together to keep the community engaging, respectful, and safe for everyone involved.
We currently coordinate a growing community of 60+ members across different cities in India. As the community has evolved, we’ve come to value clarity, structure and boundaries — this profile reflects those learnings.
🧭 Participation Guidelines
To keep the experience comfortable and balanced for everyone, we give preference to requests that reflect effort and trust-building on the platform. Helpful signals include:
- A well-written profile (ideally ~200+ words) that gives a sense of who you are
- At least 3 references from diverse interactions and backgrounds, which help us understand how you connect with different people
- Prior experience hosting others on Couchsurfing (this is a big plus and reflects community spirit)
These aren’t strict requirements, but they do help us prioritise requests when space is limited.
🌱 New to Couchsurfing?
If you’re just getting started, we highly recommend building your profile, meeting people, and getting a few references on the platform first. You’re very welcome to reach out and join us at a future event once you’re a bit more active here.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
We’re on Couchsurfing to build intentional connections through thoughtfully curated gatherings. Our focus is on:
- Meaningful conversations and cultural exchange
- Bringing together travellers and locals in a thoughtful way
- Creating spaces where people from all backgrounds and identities feel welcome, safe, and respected
Couchsurfing provides the right framework for this kind of community-led initiative, which is why our events remain free, invite-only, and non-commercial.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
We’ve helped grow a community of 50+ people who began as strangers and gradually became a trusted network—returning to events, supporting newcomers, and vouching for each other through respectful participation.
What matters most to us isn’t the number itself, but the culture that’s emerged: people who show up with curiosity, respect shared spaces, and understand that trust is built over time.
That culture is something we actively protect.
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach
How to participate in shared spaces with empathy, accountability, and respect for boundaries—especially in curated, community-led environments.
Learn
Perspectives, stories, and lived experiences from people with different backgrounds, cultures, and ways of seeing the world.
Share
Time, effort, and space—within clear guidelines that keep the experience positive for everyone involved.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Transparency and good faith.
Due to past experiences involving misuse of reporting and reference systems, we approach interactions on the platform thoughtfully and with care. This includes:
- Clear communication
- Documented decisions when necessary
- Expecting platform tools to be used responsibly and honestly
Declining a request—whether for hosting or events—is sometimes necessary and always final. It is never personal and should be respected as part of maintaining a healthy community.
We connect best with people who understand that curation is not exclusion, and that mutual respect includes accepting a “no” gracefully.
