ABOUT ME

Joel is 28, Alison is 27. We've been married for about six years. We have an AWESOME 20 month old son named Jack. We love art, all things environmental, reading, writing, and of course travel. Joel is a graphic designer...Alison is an early childhood educator and runs her own home-based daycare. We have a very friendly dog, Penny, (black lab) who loves everyone. We would rather spend our money traveling and experiencing than on buying material things, and we are so excited to foster a love of travel, people, and places in our son. We're excited to meet new people who love the same things we do. Come and stay with us!!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Last summer we were excited to host our first couch surfers! We had two sets of travelers stay with us, and both experiences were a lot of fun and lead to some great friendships. This summer we will be on the road ourselves, and are looking forward to experiencing the other side of the couch surfing equation!

Where do we even start?? Movies: Little Miss Sunshine, Garden State, Dogville, High Fidelity, Almost Famous, Elizabethtown, anything by M. Night Shyamalan or Quentin Tarantino. Books: Harry Potter series, His Dark Materials series, The Alchemist, Into the Wild, On the Road, Watchmen, anything by Dan Brown. Music: Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Green Day, Xavier Rudd, a lot of Canadian indie stuff (Arcade Fire, Feist, Hawksley Workman, etc...) We pretty much watch, read and listen to anything!!

Joel - "Seeing a whale swim by us at low tide on the rocky shoals of the West Coast Trail"
Alison - "Driving through the Rocky Mountains from Calgary to Golden for the first time."
Jack - "Dipping my toes in the warm waters of Waikiki Beach, Hawaii." (We think..He did seem pretty impressed!)

Alison: I love knitting, sewing, thrift shopping, vegetarian cooking and anything related to any of the above, and would be psyched to share any aspect of these with anyone who shows any sign of interest...
Joel: I'm enthusiastic for all things active and outdoors...fishing, gardening, biking, canoeing, camping in general. We are both constantly learning and experimenting with sustainable living practices and living a more simple, down-to-earth lifestyle.

We'd be excited to learn whatever anyone has to offer. One of the things we like best about traveling and meeting people is you always come out of it a little wiser...
