About Me

Update: My van blew up and I've found a long petsitting gig near Valencia - with a little guest cabin. It's just me, 2 dogs, 3 goats, and lots and lots of oranges.

If you want to try petsitting, use my link to get a 25% discount - https://www.trustedhousesitters.com/refer/RAF773270/?utm_source=copy-link&utm_medium=refer-a-friend&utm_campaign=refer-a-friend

I've travelled all over the world, worked in many countries, had all sorts of adventures, and never ever had a real job. I'm interested in hearing about what you are doing/learning.

The biggest lesson I've learned is that laughter is good. Every situation has a funny side, and a good laugh puts everything into perspective.

I'm a sailor, diver, explorer, entrepreneur, teacher, tinkerer, problem-solver, researcher. I try to be a rational sceptic, believe in evolution and emergent systems. Faith-based beliefs just irritate me. I try to understand how the world really works and how to live in it without becoming a wage-slave or crusty hippy.

I like trains, never take night buses, would love to never take a commercial flight again, and occasionally I hitch-hike. HHing means standing out there in the world, waiting for something good to happen. Usually it does! Sometimes, something not good happens, but I always deal with it and everything is cool again. Sailing is the same philosophy, it doesn't matter which way the wind blows if you set your sails correctly. Make your own luck, as they say. I also have a van, 45 years old, that I'm hoping to convert as a camper.

I KNOW IT'S HARD WORK TO WRITE A PERSONALISED REQUEST TO EVERY HOST, BUT IF YOU ASK TO STAY WITH ME AND DON'T ACKNOWLEDGE ANYTHING IN MY PROFILE, YOU'RE NOT GIVING ME A REASON TO REPLY. I GET A LOT OF CUT AND PASTE REQUESTS, ALSO MESSAGES FROM PEOPLE THAT JUST WANT A PLACE TO SLEEP BECAUSE THEY'RE GOING TO A CONCERT OR CATCHING A PLANE THE NEXT DAY. THESE ARE NOT INTERESTING TO ME, GIVE ME A REASON TO REPLY AND EVEN IF I CAN'T HOST YOU I WILL STILL REPLY.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Meet some interesting people, see some places, do some things. The best CS experiences for me involve a good meal and chat about life, the universe and everything - at a reasonable time of the evening. I don't drink (liver can't do any more!), but don't object to anyone else having a few glasses.

I hate smoking! I did not join CS to host people who stink of smoke, even if they offer to smoke outside the smell comes in with them afterwards. Please respect my home by choosing somewhere else if you are a smoker.

Interests

I love to ask "why do they do that?" or "why does that happen?" all the time. I ask questions, challenge people, and look for ways the world can be made better.

I'm a teacher, sailor, scuba/free diver, hiker, occasional yogi, and general adventurer. I hate shopping and have no interest in fashoin, football or celebrity gossip.
