It's been some time since I was on Couchsurfing, but my experiences with couchsurfers have been great, and have actually maintained great friendships with some who stay with me in NYC often.

My first experience on CS it was probably one of the most amazing stays I've had with someone. It was a last minute request flying into Berlin, and I was greeted with warm bed, fresh baked pizza, craft beer, and a excursion out into the city that night. The kind of welcome you'd expect from family.
