About Me

"The truth is that I'm a bad person, but that's going to change, I'm going to change. This is the last of this sort of thing. I'm cleaning up and I'm moving on, going straight and choosing life. I'm looking forward to it already. I'm going to be just like you: the job, the family, the fucking big television, the washing machine, the car, the compact disc and electrical tin opener, good health, low cholesterol, dental insurance, mortgage, starter home, leisurewear, luggage, three-piece suite, DIY, game shows, junk food, children, walks in the park, nine to five, good at golf, washing the car, choice of sweaters, family Christmas, indexed pension, tax exemption, clearing the gutters, getting by, looking ahead, to the day you die."

... Hopefully not all too soon! :-)

Interests

I live to travel... I've been doing it as long as I can remember and could muster the English for "One ticket to...". I love to travel both near and far to meet new people. Hence my most important possession is probably my passport (completely with my very dodgy picture from my undergrad days when having long hair and looking like you should after drinking far too much snakebite was cool) and I travel whenever I get the chance. Unfortunately as the years roll by and responsibility becomes all far too apparent this is getting a little more tricky but I'm one for being persistent.

When I can't travel I tend to spend most of my time on a computer doing research for Trinity College Dublin in their Distributed Systems Group and Intel Europe for their Sustainable Cities Lab where I am currently going for my PhD. The real world wasn't for me and I adored the student life so much that I try my very best to "live the dream" now as a Professional Student. Although the pay is shocking, the hours are long and work, well, absolutely head wrecking I wouldn't change it for the world. I love my work and still feel very lucky to have a chance to come and do it here in Ireland.

When that isn't taking up all my time I love to socialise, cook, enjoy the company of good food, drink and people.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Possibly the most amazing thing I ever did was up sticks and live in Madagascar for a while to work at a charity. Until space tourism become a reality I firmly believe it is most fascinating, beautiful and inspiring place I will ever go to. I wanted to stay for so much longer but unfortunately a Coup d'etat occurred whilst I was working there so it meant I only made it through one visa period. I still go back whenever I can though and each time brings with it a whole new set of awesome experiences and crazy pictures that tend to litter my desk.

Countries I’ve Visited
