About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To see the world in a different way, through my eyes, and my lens.

I'd love to take your portrait!

ABOUT ME

Growing up, I spent a lot of time riding miles and miles of roads and trails and exploring wherever and whatever I could find, which I believe plays a part of my love for travel. Now I live in Atlanta and I'm a teacher (I teach kids with learning disabilities who are years behind in reading skills how to read and spell) and a photographer. I feel very fortunate to do two things I'm passionate about for a living. I'm easy to talk to and love learning, exploring ideas, and experiencing as much as I can of what this world has to offer. I'd love to meet other people with an interest in culture, travel, music, etc. You can see some of my travels here: http://www.shadowboxerphoto.com/ (click Places)

PHILOSOPHY

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes"

-Proust

"There are no strangers here; only friends you haven't yet met."

-William Butler Yeats

"Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living."

-Miriam Beard

The world is a tragedy to those who feel, but a comedy to those who think

-Horace Walpole

"If what Proust says is true, that happiness is the absence of fever, then I will never know happiness. For I am possessed by a fever for knowledge, experience, and creation."

-Anais Nin

"I think about photographs as being full, or empty. You picture something in a frame and it's got lots of accounting going on in it--stones and buildings and trees and air--but that's not what fills up a frame. You fill up the frame with feelings, energy, discovery, and risk, and leave room enough for someone else to get in there."

- Joel Meyerowitz

Well, sir, it's this rug I had. It really tied the room together.

-The Dude

Interests

Passions: Music (playing and listening). Photography. Food. Art. Film. Learning. Travel!

I'm big into music of many kinds, and I go to a lot of shows both to experience the music and often photograph the performance for one of many publications. I also love karaoke! I'm a pretty good cook and love eating, preparing, and talking about food. I'm a lover of film, art, friends, and good times. I'm interested in learning about different perspectives and people, as well as what shapes human thought and collective consciousness. All of this while laughing hysterically...

Music, Movies, and Books

Whew, I need a day off so I can come back to this one... Go to my website to at least see some of the bands I've photographed as I only shoot the ones I love.
A few directors: The Coen Brothers, Godard, Tarantino, Wes Anderson, Stanley Kubrick, Woody Allen
Movies: Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, Big Lebowski, Amelie, Blade Runner, City of God
Authors: Kurt Vonnegut, Haruki Murakami, Sedaris, Walker Percy, Salinger, Huxley, Bukowski, Palahniuk

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Sunset at Tanah Lot in Bali. Photographing Radiohead in the pit. Seeing a real Geisha. Hangliding from Gavea in Rio with Lance Bass and one of Brittany Spears' dancers. Eating seafood at Tratoria del Billy on the mountainside overlooking the sea at Cinque Terre. Carnaval in Brazil! Swimming with bioluminescent plankton in Thailand and Tybee Island. Night diving in St. Croix. Lunch at the #4 restaurant in the world, Central in Lima. Coffee in a palafito in Chiloe, Chile. Riding a bike around Amsterdam for weeks. Playing the drums in the famous Hot Club de Gand in Ghent, Belgium with an Aussie jazz band. Driving the Pacific Coast Highway in Big Sur, culminating in a Neil Young show at a small venue. Getting kicked out of the Vatican!

Teach, Learn, Share

I suppose I could teach someone how to work an SLR camera, juggle fire sticks (koi), play a couple of instruments (drums, guitar), cook, and if you're having trouble reading this, I'm your man!

Also if anyone has any questions about restaurants in Atlanta, I am very informed on the best places to eat. I know many cultural events (art shows, concerts, festivals, etc.) that are going on, so if you're looking for something to do, hit me up!
