About Me

I was born in Siberia, which is still the place I call home, even when we moved when I was five. Vast, untouched landscapes, that’s my happy place. Since then I’ve lived in 6 countries - currently it’s Berlin, Germany.
I’m interested in people and cultures. As one of my favourite photographers Sebastião Salgado once said - ‘People are the salt of the earth’ - I absolutely agree.
I try to live in harmony with the planet. Not an easy goal in our fast-changing, consumption-driven world, but I’m trying my best. Always been a strong advocate for an ethical treatment of people and animals and this advocacy is only becoming stronger each day.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’ve met some terrific people through this website and surfed couches on almost all continents. I also hosted a bunch of people. As mentioned above, I’m on CS because of the „salt“, the main ingredient of everything.

Interests

Travelling and photography. Besides I'm into hiking, cultures, food, languages, arts and yoga. I’m interested in politics, a vegan lifestyle, environmental issues, film. I enjoy going out, but I will always choose a good talk with some wine or beer over a party. And of course meeting all these amazing people (and animals!) on this beautiful planet we call home.

Music, Movies, and Books

Almost everything directed by Terrence Malick, Alejandro Inarritu, Alexander Payne and Darren Aronofsky.
I read a lot of non-fictional books, mainly about ethical and political issues, health and philosophy. Favourite writers are Noam Chomsky, Yuval Noah Harari, Jared Diamond and George Orwell.
I wish I could play an instrument, maybe one day...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Sleeping in a tent 300m away from the active volcano Fuego in Guatemala. There was a lava flow every 15 minutes! Seeing an anaconda in the Amazon, swimming in bioluminescent plankton in Colombia and hiking the second highest volcano in Ecuador (5.897m). Driving 5000km across South Africa and experiencing the real South Africa. Bungeejumping, swimming with dolphins in the open sea and seeing whales for the first time!
Best and most rewarding experience was definitely to rescue a few poor souls (my cats!) from the streets on my travels.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you the languages I speak, some dancing and vegan cooking. I'm interested in learning pretty much anything!
