About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To enjoy life - have fun, meet people, learn more, go places
ABOUT US
On the whole we are cheerful, friendly, easy-going, and happy to share our home with others, especially those who are cheerful, friendly, easy-going and open minded!
We love travel, geography, history, wildlife, oceans, forests, and a wide variety of books, movies and music.
Come visit and find out more about us! We love meeting new people, finding out about their lives and cultures, sharing experiences, talking travel and other places, learning from each other.
We're open to wwoof/helpx type arrangements too, depending on what we've got going on at the time.
PHILOSOPHY
Personal philosophy - these quotes / unintentional misquotes give a reasonable idea...
Life is not measured by the breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.
Adventure before dementia (love this one!!)
Those who say something can not be done should get out of the way of those who are doing it.
Be the change you want to see in the world.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"
Life is short, love what you do.
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed
by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails.
Explore. Dream. Discover."
Mark Twain
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
"The world is a book and those who dont travel read only one page" - St Augustine (and a travel agent friend of ours.)
If you dont know where you are going, any road will lead you there.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We love it! We've surfed and hosted, had great experiences all round, hence the reason we are still here!
We've met some fascinating people, will you be the next?
Interests
Interests, good things to have, and we have a variety.
The outdoors and activities linked to being outdoors probably account for most of our interests. Things like hiking, camping, geocaching, trying to develop our paddock into some kind of wildlife and human sanctuary. Sports too, mainly football / soccer, but we have a go at other things.
Travelling of course is a huge interest, as are geography and history.
We are also "into" old VW's.
Inside interests include reading (all sorts of books), listening to music, chatting with new friends found via CS, catching up with old friends, watching movies, playing the occasional board game.
So, like we said, a good variety! And we are always open to trying new things.
The girls are developing their own interests. At the moment they love animals, books, their dolls, puzzles, being outside, climbing and swinging, art, craft, their toy farm...about as varied as us! We are trying to build a good collection of books for them, so if you have a favourite, or a good book from your own country, I'm sure they'd love a copy, regardless of language, as long as the pictures are good! [Let us just say here that we do not ask for anything in exchange for hosting you, but if you want to bring us something from home, something for the kids is best! Or just stick with food and drink to share!!]

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies - varied tastes, I guess mainly thriller, action adventure, comedy.
TV - movies, sport, National Geographic and Discovery Channel etc., wildlife docos, CSI type shows.
Music - eclectic again, we'll listen to most types - pop, rock, blues, jazz... We'd like to expand our experiences, so if you have a favourite, either from home or anywhere in the world, let us know and share some with us.
Books - horror, murder/mystery, adventure, travel, true stories. And now childrens books! We love reading and usually have books we can swap if you are short of something to read.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Oh my, so many things to chose from...lets have a think...hiked to see mountain gorillas...swum with dolphins and seals...microlight over Victoria Falls...dug-out canoe trip in the upper Amazon...camped in quiet places...visited places tourists don't go to...lived and loved...even discovering this site and the experiences it brings is a pretty amazing thing! But possibly the most amazing thing we have done is created new life, which leads onto the most amazing thing we are doing, which is nurturing that new life.
