About Me

I grew up in Arizona, then lived in Florida for several years, where over time I slowly scrapped the "rat race" lifestyle. I quit trying to find a job I liked and just created my own instead, being self-employed as a babysitter/pet-sitter. I befriended many kindred spirits who lived "alternative" lifestyles, and started to realize I greatly preferred that to whatever's considered normal here in the U.S. Eventually, I threw everything into storage, did my best to find my clients someone to replace me, and ran away to live a more free life!

I've done all kinds of things and stayed in all kinds of places along the way, but the main way I make a living is as The Traveling Bubble Fairy (www.facebook.com/thetravelingbubblefairy, or Instagram @thetravelingbubblefairy)! I dress up as a fairy and make giant bubbles to entertain kids in exchange for tips, and I also make/sell the giant bubble wands so that kids young and old can go make their own giant bubbles at home. I don't make a killing, but I make enough to get by, and I feel great about spreading joy to the world in the form of bubbles for a living!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Occasionally in my nomadic lifestyle, I need a place to lay my head for a night or two. I'm quiet, organized, and introverted, so I like people who are similar.

Music, Movies, and Books

These lists are always so awkward and limiting...I'm very picky, and yet I love all sorts of things.
This is some random stuff I like:

Music- Simon and Garfunkel, Nirvana, Buddy Holly, Incubus, Cream, Beats Antique, Pink Floyd, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Nahko, Ludo, Janis Joplin (this could go on forever)

Movies- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Almost Famous, Finding Nemo, Requiem for a Dream, Punch-Drunk Love, Donnie Darko, Zoolander

Books- My interests are all over the place, but two of my favorites are Dr. Seuss and Stephen King. I'm currently reading The Last Star, which is the third book in The 5th Wave trilogy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Amazing could be defined in so many ways. Leaving my "safe" life of rent, job, and stability behind to go travel was/has been amazing. I went skydiving with my little brother for his birthday several years ago, that was definitely amazing. I've spent most of my life working with kids, who are all amazing deep down (even the ones that make you want to run away screaming). And I've been in love more than once, which is much more than amazing, but it still fits in this category.

Teach, Learn, Share

I haven't necessarily taught any of these things, but things I enjoy/think I'm somewhat good at are as follows:
Coloring with crayons (seriously- and while the "adult coloring books" are fun, they really only work with colored pencils or pens, so I prefer kids' coloring books)
Playing the drum, although I've only played for a few years so I'm no pro yet
I'm pretty good at explaining academic concepts (tutoring), although I've mostly only done that with kids, not adults.
I could make giant bubbles for hours (it's what I do for a living)...if you have a relatively spacious/car-free outdoor area like a yard, beach, etc. near your house, I'd love to show you some of the biggest bubbles you've ever seen!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a neat freak and cleaning is pretty therapeutic to me, so anytime I'm a guest, whether it's with a friend or a stranger, I like to repay the favor by cleaning more than just my own mess. Dishes, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, etc.
I'm not a professional chef by any means, but I do know how to make a few things pretty well, so I can cook a (vegetarian) meal or two during me stay, as long as you have the ingredients needed (my specialties include enchiladas, pasta with yummy homemade sauce, veggie pot pie, and homemade pizza).
Aside from that, I can't think of what else I could do to help make my stay easier on you, except that I'm a calm, quiet person, and I do my best to only bring good energy everywhere I go.
