About Me
ABOUT US
We're Sam (yes, that really is my last name) and Sarah.
We have two large dogs. So if animals aren't your thing... Expect to get licked. There may also be some barking. You'll probably get dog hair on you.
PHILOSOPHY
I try to live my life one day at a time, one foot in front of the other and with no expectations. Life is short and it's meant to be enjoyed. I like sharing what little I have with those who are both appreciative and not expectant. Expect nothing, be thankful for everything you get, whether that's a roof over my head, a shower, a good conversation or good travelling weather. Be positive. Be persistent. Be proactive. Be passionate.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I previously had a "verified account" but it seems they've switched that over to a "per year" basis now. Oh well.
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
A few years ago I rode a bicycle 1,700 miles all over the US east coast and couch surfed with some pretty awesome people. You can read more about it on my travel blog here: thetruthbesold.wordpress.com
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've hosted two surfers, one an official couchsurfer and some friends from another site.
I've been hosted by some truly awesome people so far. I have a lot of hospitality to repay.
Interests
Sam loves all things tech, practicing Brazilian jiu-jitsu, cycling and drafting/design.
Sarah loves her horse, pole dance and regular dancing. :)
We both love a good beer, sharing a home cooked meal and staying too busy for our own good.

Music, Movies, and Books
Authors: Orwell, Palahniuk, Huxley, Robbins, Wallace, Herbert, and tons more. I love looking over people's bookshelves. It tells you so much about a person.
Directors: Richie, Kubrick, Miike, von Trier, Scott, Aronofsky, and tons more. I love a good movie. Action movies to art flicks to documentaries.
Music: I like broadening my musical horizons. My roots are in progressive metal but I've been branching out... everything from folk-punk to underground hip hop. I don't listen to bluegrass but thoroughly enjoy watching it played live.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Biking down from Apple Orchard Peak on the Blue Ridge Parkway was amazing. It was hell getting up there on a fully loaded, double chainring touring bike but the ride down the other side was absolutely breath taking. Ten straight miles down hill, moving so fast my hands were cramping from braking so often and jaw droppingly beautiful scenic views that stretch for miles.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm a jack of all trades. Here's a smattering of things, in no particular order, that I know a little about: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, home brewing, backing up a trailer, CAD, wood working, EMS, programming, bicycle repair, computer repair, pipe fitting, cooking, dancing badly, anything to do with horses, procrastinating, working out...
I love to learn for the sake of learning itself. It's one of the things that makes me truly happy in life. What can you teach me?
What I Can Share with Hosts
What to expect:
We're pretty chill people, generally not really the "going out" sort... until we are. Expect a chill night, hanging out in the kitchen shooting the shit or a cup of tea on the couch. We may be in bed by 10, we might be up till 2.
If you're feeling particularly adventurous, you may be able to attend a jiu-jitsu lesson with Sam or a pole dancing lesson or horse training session with Sarah. If you're interested, just ask ahead of time. We pay professionals to instruct us, so it's at their discretion and it's rude to put them on the spot.
