About Me

CURRENT MISSION

In the future, I plan on being a belly-dancing supermodel mad-scientist musician space-pirate doctor that works at NASA. There is no plan B as of yet...

ABOUT ME

I'm 24 years old, and just as most people my age, I'm all about extremes.

My boyfriend and I signed up to be a foster home for kittens, and we currently are fostering 1 baby kitten until she that is up for adoption. She is extremely cute, but soooo much work!

I have spent much of the last 6 years in labs - most of which was neurophysiology and adult stem cell (from bone marrow and cord blood) research. My main project was the neurotransdifferentiation of stem cells (changing stem cells into neuron-like cells). The goal is to help regenerate neuronal activity that is lost in conditions like Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's, stroke, and spinal cord injury. I have also worked on ovarian and breast cancer, regeneration of heart cells, and assembling injectable substrates to help cells survive in the body. I started work as last year as a researcher in a pharmacology lab studying chronic pain. The goal of this research was to find non-opiate ways to block pain experienced in conditions such as diabetes and terminal cancer. I recently started work in a cancer lab that studies the angiogenesis, lymphangiogenesis, and metastasis of cancer. Research is incredibly rewarding, and I hope to pursue further education in the research/medical field in the near future. On the side, I also picked up a phlebotomy position at a local hospital. I finally found a good balance between lab (no people) and the hospital (all people).

To balance my extreme daytime nerdiness, I tend to have rather lively nights and weekends. I love going out with friends and having people over. I also play piano, bellydance, and am an avid South Park fan. I love to travel, and I hope surf back from a short trip to California this Fall!
