About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To meet people wherever I am.

ABOUT ME

I am Andrew, a generally laid back young man from Tacoma, Washington. My wife is named Jill, she is also from Tacoma, she is a therapist, teacher, and equestrian. I studied Archeology, Geology, and GIS in my undergrad, worked for two years as a survey technician and 3-D modeler, and in 2019 quit my job to travel the world for a year with Jill. We have a blog about our adventure at www.thewanderblobs.com.

Since the pandemic, Jill and I live in Tacoma with our miniature Australian Shepherd, Emmett. My hobbies include travel, motorcycling, and making things from scratch (bread, buttermilk biscuits, our wedding bands, etc.).

PHILOSOPHY

People are generally good

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I make an effort to share my traveling experiences with everyone. I have been spreading the CS word for over seven years now and have no intention of stopping.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I surfed across the United Kingdom, and France (both with CS and without) during my last European adventure. I had such a brilliant time meeting people that I decided there really are few better ways to travel. In introduced my wife to the world of CS during our year of travel, and we met amazing people through both surfing and community events.

Interests

Running, hiking, being outside, playing guitar (to the best of my ability), playing the harmonica (always have an instrument), singing (an interest not a skill), and eating with my pocket knife. I love eating, preparing, and finding food and I love wine with it. I like a good nap under the sun or stars and of course I enjoy the company of interesting people. Travel out of a backpack is a passion that I have in common with many other couchsurfers and sharing travel methods is one of my all time favorite ways of "chewing the fat".

Music, Movies, and Books

All the Lord of the Rings, anything by Wes Anderson, the old Starwars, Harry Potter (books and movie), the Redwall series of books (every single one). I don't read much these days but the last book I read was The Stranger by Albert Camus.
Music: Glass Animals, Louane, AnneMayKantereit, Yann Tiersen, Detektivbyran, Arcade Fire, When Saints Go Machine, Beirut, Alt-J

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have seen the ruins of the Utah desert. I stood atop Carrauntoohil in Ireland.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am mostly trying to learn about the art of traveling right now. If you want I can teach you about American culture. I have been told it's interesting. Where that interest lies is beyond me but whatever floats your boat.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I really enjoy cooking! I have a few signature dishes that I can make with the right iingredients, and can generally make something decent with whatever is around. I really think cooking is a fun activity with other people, and feel that conversation at the dinner table after preparing something delicious is always very warm and friendly. Of course, my wife and I are in a long trip that has already involved a lot of learning and experience, so we are more than happy to share that with all whom are interested. Generally speaking, if we have messaged you, it is because we like your profile and want to see whats going on in your neck of the woods.
