About Me

Hi! My name is Thierry, good to 'meet' you! I'm 27, and currently on the road with my girlfriend Deborah.

I've met her last spring in Belgium, she lives there, and after a few months together I made the call to join her in her hitch-hiking adventures! I gave up literally everything, my apartment, my job, and even my band to travel the world one ride at the time.

So, here we are. We never quite know where we'll end up so that's always a surprise, but I love the interactions we have along the way. And it's a beautiful way to meet new and exciting people, just like couchsurfing!

I'm quite a cool guy eventhough some say that I can be pretty loud at times, but that's just the Dutch blood flowing through my veins. I love music, even more so when it's live. I hope to write more tunes in the future since my band doesn't fit in my backpack.

If you'd like to get to know me better, I suggest we should meet up!

See y'all on your comfy couches~

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am/was quite the cynical type, and ever since I started hitch-hiking with my girlfriend I found out that people aren't really that bad. And I think couch surfing, and thus meeting new people and locals, is a good way to regain my trust in humanity.

It's also a great way of gaining info on the place you're staying, so that's definitely a bonus. And I think it's really cool to see your place from the inside. Whenever I pass through a city I always wonder who's behind the windows looking out, and that might be you!

Interests

I love chatting all night long about all my adventures so far. I'm also quite awesome as a cook, my breakfasts are legend among my friends. Movies are important for the occasional night off, just to sit back and chill for a while. Big reader, mostly 80's sci-fi, and other nerdy subjects. I also love my sleep and I try to get at least 6 hours in every night.

Music, Movies, and Books

Very big on music, ranging from classical to hardrock/hardcore punk, towards drum and bass and back to psytrance and goa. I'm also partial towards folk, especially the Irish kind.

I was the frontman and lyricist of my band, The Spoofs. But I had to leave the guys behind to start this awesome adventure. I hope I can make some music along the way, so let's jam!

*By the way, I'm making a database of local music and musicians from the places I've been, so if you know some local artists, let me know!

I love anything sci-fi when it comes to reading, but the hard sci-fi really stands out for me. I had a new-year's resolution in '15 to read 52 books in a year and I'm proud to say that I've made it too.

Movies are always good, I like almost anything, besides cheesy romcoms and most Christmas movies. Just sit back, relax, and let the screen do the talking.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've played with my band for a large crowd back in The Netherlands. That was amazing, and I hope I will one day feel that good again.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am pretty social, and I love to share my stories and jokes. Also I am quite handy, so I could fix something for you, haha!

I could cook up something delicious, especially when it comes to breakfast. Also quite good with making dinner from scraps.

I'd love to learn stuff about the areas I'm visiting, and not just the stuff on the first page of Google. I'm also keen on history, so tell me all about it if you can!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories, my cooking, excellent joint-rolling skills, and just a jolly good time. I'm somewhat good in technical stuff as well, so perhaps I could help you with something around the house.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, France, Italy, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In
