About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To laugh uncontrollably every day

ABOUT ME

I'm an opera/musical theater singer and agent, back in my hometown of Litchfield Park, AZ with my Spanish chef husband and the Four Kitties of the Apocalypse after living in Madrid, Spain for seven years and New York, NY for 10. I'm quirky and social and love to stay up late. I'm very, very close and loyal to my family and my friends. I am not religious, period. I love to travel (good thing, it's a big part of my job). I love to learn new languages. I love to read books. I love cats. I love singing opera, whether in the shower, or onstage for actual money. I love cooking and trying new things. Right now, I love my life! That tall chick bopping down the street singing to herself? That would be me. Yeah, I'm a little crazy and driven, but in the good way.

PHILOSOPHY

"Only connect." - E.M. Forster

"I never lose sight of the fact that just being is fun." - Katharine Hepburn

...yup, that about says it all. That and any day I can crack you and/or myself up is a good day.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been lucky enough to host/be hosted by some pretty awesome complete strangers over the last many years and am hoping to continue the experience. Right now I don't have much opportunity to host, but that will change as life does, I'm sure.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Obviously, classical and opera hit the list first - Mozart, Bellini, Rossini, Donizetti and Verdi top the list, with Handel close behind. Hamilton is my latest obsession. But I also love Mary Chapin Carpenter, Wham! AND George Michael as a soloist, Depeche Mode, the Indigo Girls, Eminem (yes, I know that's just wrong), Alanis Morissette, the Eurythmics AND Annie Lennox as a soloist, in fact most 80's pop would make my happy list.

Movies: HAIRSPRAY!!! Gone With the Wind, A Fish Called Wanda, LOVE the original Star Wars trilogy, could totally do without the most recent three (and Jar-Jar Binks should be beaten to death with his own arms); Camille (Garbo! What could be bad?); Whatever Happened to Baby Jane (Davis! What could be bad?); Gone with the Wind; anything involving Errol Flynn; Loved both the Howards End and Room with a View movies; The Others; The Shining (the one with Jack Nicholson, the other was lame) - actually I have this sick thing, I really love horror movies. Also movies where they blow stuff up, all the Harry Potter flicks, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The New World, Big Night and the Imposters, and I will go far out of my way to see a Coen brothers movie. Bad Santa rocked my world. I love Quentin Tarantino, especially Kill Bill 1 & 2, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, and even From Dusk till Dawn. Matador, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, The Producers (ORIGINAL!), all the Thin Man movies, Superman (Christopher Reeve only!)...

Books: A Room with a View (E.M. Forster); Howards End (E.M. Forster); anything by Henry James; Gone With the Wind (yes, I know, shut up), We Have Always Lived in the Castle and The Haunting of Hill House (Shirley Jackson); anything by Truman Capote (my favorite American author); anything by Edith Wharton, anything by Jane Austen, Roald Dahl's short stories; Eat. Pray. Love. (Elizabeth Gilbert); The Chronicles of Narnia (C.S. Lewis); Les Liaisons Dangereuses (Pierre Choderlos de Laclos); the poems of Edna St. Vincent Millay; John Adams (David McCullough); Class: A guide to the modern American status system (Paul Fussell - laugh-out-loud funny, that one); Consuming Passions: A food-obsessed life (Michael Lee West, actually I love all her books); every Miss Manners book (Judith Martin); on the lighter side I like John Sandford's Prey books, Jeffrey Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme books, the recent Chalion series by Lois McMaster Bujold, the Get Fuzzy cartoon collections (c'mon, Bucky Katt is great); and yes, I am addicted to Harry Potter.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I did not get on a plane going back to NYC. Instead, I stayed in a country where I had no job, no friends (ok, one friend) and did not speak the language. Also? This one time? I accidentally set my stovetop on fire. Oops.

Teach, Learn, Share

"No es pesar, ni sufrir, ni engañar, ni mentir; es reir, es gozar, es placer, es vivir." - La Generala, Vives

"The world is so exquisite, with so much love and moral depth, that there is no reason to deceive ourselves with pretty stories for which there's little good evidence. Far better, it seems to me, in our vulnerability, is to look Death in the eye and to be grateful every day for the brief but magnificent opportunity that life provides."-- Carl Sagan

What I Can Share with Hosts

My husband and I are laid-back (I AM TOO EASYGOING!) and cheerful and WE WILL COOK FOR YOU. I repeat: WE WILL COOK FOR YOU. Paella, anyone?
