About Me

Human male, approximately 11,000 days old. Likes books, movies, music... stories.
Average height. Proportionate superhuman abilities of a guy about my size, build and age. A few tattoos, relatively long hair at time of writing. Too slim to make a good candidate for cannibalism. Escaping Australia to pursue grander dreams and adventures. Earnest, honest, sarcastic, welcoming.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Having hosted a number of couchsurfers at our Melbourne home over the years, it seems like a great way to connect more with locals rather than just other travellers as you would at a hostel. The people we've met through hosting have been universally brilliant, it'll be nice to see it from the other side of the fence. Would be wonderful to meet some people around the world to go back and visit, or put them up when I return to my current home of Vancouver, CA.

Interests

Studied/s: film, writing, design, painting, behavioural psychology, literature, mythology, criminology, sociology, art/music history, philosophy... (read: well-overeducated). Fascinated by the sciences, particularly physics. Prone to wikipedia nosedives. Love talking about grand ideas, fondness for odd, passionate people.

Music, Movies, and Books

Fairly eclectic (who isn't?) and always on the hunt for new/interesting things.

MUSIC
Anything from classical music through 50s doowop to psychedelic rock to French 60s French pop to 70s disco/funk to 80s punk to 90s shoegaze to modern electronica and anything that falls in that vast spectrum between.

MOVIES
Too numerous to list specifically, but favourites include classic/trashy Noir, sci-fi, horror, fantasy, Ghibli, Stanley Kubrick, Wes & PT Anderson, Coen Brothers, Edgar Wright, Spike Jonze, Guillermo del Toro... and on and on...

BOOKS
My favourite book is 'Catch 22' by Joseph Heller otherwise I range from The Odyssey to Fight Club, EA Poe, Stephen King, Douglas Adams, Neil Gaiman, HP Lovecraft, GRR Martin, PK Dick, William Gibson, sci-fi and magical realism... again, so many and too many others to list.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Not sure what qualifies as amazing here? Could just as easily be walking on the moon or eating an entire wheel of cheese. I'll come back to this one.

Teach, Learn, Share

Keen to teach and share anything I've got under my belt already - knowledge is only really useful if you can relate it, express it, communicate it, pass it on. I can teach English, film, guitar, drawing/painting, writing, psychology and philosophy...

What I Can Share with Hosts

Vast stores of trivial knowledge, creativity, a traditional laid-back Australian attitude tempered with enthusiasm for new and unknown things. I'm not messy but neither am I a neatfreak. Very open and accepting of good people and encouraging to push them in the right ways. Will probably try to convince you to join me on the road to come and see wondrous things.
