About Me

I'm a travelling programmer - I can work from anywhere in the world as long as I have a bit of Internet.

I love meditation and the outdoors. I have a degree in Religious Studies and have written and given talks about spirituality.

You can find out a lot more about me through my website: http://tombh.co.uk

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet people.

I mostly don't need somewhere to stay as my work means I can afford to get somewhere where I can guarantee some quite, focussed work time.

Interests

Meditation: I'm not Buddhist, just been very inspired by it. I've had a daily practice since 2001 and take silent retreats every year.

Computers: This is somewhat love/hate - on the one hand they let me earn the money to travel, whilst on the other hand, being in front of a screen so much isn't good for me. I love Open Source though and tinkering on my own little projects. Other buzz words: Ruby, Rust, Linux, ZSH, design patterns, Big O notation.

Other interests: bouldering (climbing), running, languages and science, especially physics.

Music, Movies, and Books

Mostly acoustic music, like folk. I play guitar and clawhammer banjo.

All the movies by the Cohen Brothers!

I'm not particularly fond of reading novels, although I do read them when I'm recommended one. For some reason I find the make-believe world of fiction self indulgent, which is odd because I love cinema. I generally prefer non-fiction; spirituality, science, history. Stephen Batchelor (Buddhism Without Beliefs) and Chris Arthur (Northern Irish essayist) are two of my favourites.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've walked solo across the length of Wales, UK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uQ0RfoOVC4

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share; English, programming, meditation and guitar/ukulele/banjo.
